when the trany is half the cost and is rated at twice the HP, im pretty sure that IS keeping the cost down.

I only shift twice in the quarter anyways. Overdrive isn't for track use, its for the highway when cruising. Having overdrive means i can drive somewhere and it costs less than not having it. Its pointless to have a tranny that's only used for its built purpose a hand full of times a year. Build it for what you do with it the majority of the time. In wizards case, the street. So a tranny with overdrive is his best option, especially since the car sees a lot of highway use

Matt, that's brake boosting to 6 psi at the line, after that the boost controller was set to 16psi.

It doesn't make sense to have a 3 speed auto any more. There are to many options for trannys anymore, to go buy a race car tranny for a car that goes to the track a couple of times a year. You may put 3 or 4 miles on it a year at the track, and 8-10000 the rest of the year.
My first car was a 75 malibu that had a t350 in it, and it got the same milage in town as it did on the highway, because at 70 it was revving 2700rpm. It sucked to take on long trips, because at 2700 rpms it was loud as hell, but it wasn't as loud as most of the cars that were at the dyno day.

was it a fuel injected ls1? lol i think the th400 is one of the most universal trannies out there. 2 SPEEDS(glides) are for the track, i agree, but a 3spd is not a track tranny to say the least. shure overdrive can be useful, but with a 4l80e, your still limited at the track to 3 gears. and the cost difference is insane!!!! 4l80es starting at 3500+++++ !!!!

if anything i can assure BETTER gas mileage w a 400, they loose alot less power than the 80e, and less momentum loss when shifting. less rearend gear too.

with there tranny/gear i will be buying, i can cruise thru town at 35 mph at 1200 rpm, cruise on the highway @ 65 at 2350 and 75 at 2700.

best part tho, no matter what i do with it, it will last

Since the converter has been actually locking correctly (im guessing cuz the cooler weather) 78mph is 2500rpm

You guys can say what you want, think what you want....I'm still going to do what I want!!
I know where I'm going with my car and what I want to do with it. Not only have I talked about the things I want to do, but I've been doing them. The car is turning out better than I had hoped even though I went different directions then ppl tried to pull me. Atleast I know with my setup, it's not like everyone else's, it's solid and reliable, does what I want it to, and it looks good while doing it.
So in a nutshell, I have a good daily driving low 12 sec. car that I don't have to worry about breaking. I'd drive it to Cali. and back, with no worries.

at 75, its 2625 rpm, if the converter will stay locked(big problem w 4l60e's)
