Ute/Maloo: The next El Camino SS?
Picture of the Holden Ute/Maloo
I sure hope so!
Out of all the Holdens, this is my favorite. And unlike the rest of the Holden line-up, this is one car I wouldn't mind being re-badged as an El Camino SS. I just like everything about this ride... the looks, the performance, etc.
If GM introduced this to the states... I'd seriously consider buying one.
GM needs a nice alternative to a truck/SUV, and a cheaper alternative to the SSR.
Any thoughts on this?
Just for ***** n' giggles... I built a Maloo on the Holden website:
SS Ute 5.7L/Manual $40,940.00 RRP*
Key Standard Features 250kW, 5.7 litre Generation III V8 engine
17" alloy wheels (4)
Sports suspension
Alloy covered pedal cluster
6 disc in-dash CD player
Single zone climate control
Colour Redhot No additional cost
Trim Anthracite Leather $1,190.00 RRP*
Cluster Redhot No additional cost
Accessories
Sports bar $742.50 RRP*
Rear window sunshade $36.05 RRP*
Cargo tie down hooks $10.95 RRP*
Sheepskin seat inserts $335.50 RRP*
Alloy wheel lock nuts $47.85 RRP*
Front sunshade $363.00 RRP*
Ashtray kit (front) $43.20 RRP*
Safety jumper leads $69.30 RRP*
Weathershield (slimline) $80.25 RRP*
Towing mirrors $39.35 RRP*
Total price: $43,897.95 RRP*
$43,897.95 AUD = $32,892.22 USD
1 AUD = 0.749288 USD
So... would I buy this for $32k? Hell yeah!
I sure hope so!

They are popular out here , I went for the one tonner version witch is simular to the style side version from the rear window forward but the rear of the car is completely different .It has a half chassis and a leaf spring live rear axle .
The rest of the drive train is the same though LS1 and six speed .
The VZ Maloo comes with the LS2 and is done by HSV http://www.hsv.com.au/vz_intro.html

Nice looking, the SSR is too stumpy for useful haulling and
this looks a whole lot less Herbie. But I think I'd still keep
my $300 1968 El Camino, because a beater needs to be
uglier than this. How you gonna throw 500# of cinder block
in something so purty?

i think we should build the ute, but by the time we go ahead and build the concept ute, it will be old. Just imagine the sales on the concept ute and the torana concept.
Holdens will have to put the third shift back on.
