Default New guy and gal from TN

How's it going? My name is James, and my wife's name is Rachael. We have a 1962 Chevy Impala that we are thinking of converting to an LS. The trigger hasn't been pulled yet, but I wanted to join up and see what kind of parts and such are floating around. The car has been parked in a garage for the last 9 years. We are going to get the car back running and then we will decide what to do from there. Still browsing around here, so bare with me as I get my sea legs sorted out.

Sweet ride! I have some family in TN and I my self am in TN about once a month. You should be able to find all the info you need on this site, especially in the hybrid and conversion section.

Welcome. That is a really nice looking ride you have there. A LS conversion on that would be awesome.

Thanks for the compliments. I have been doing a lot of research and I really think this car has a lot of potential. It already looks nice on the outside. A few of the first things I am going to tackle are the brakes, steering and suspension. That all should come together pretty quickly. This is the wife's car, so making it as comfortable and easy to drive as possible is top priority. After that stuff is addressed, we will work on gathering all the parts needed for the LS swap.

Still not sure yet if we are going to go with the Gen III or the Gen IV. Any suggestions? We don't have a large wallet, but aren't afraid to do things right the first time.

great looking car man......i almost pulled the trigger on a '62 belair not long ago, with the right stance they're the slickest car on the road next to a '67 chevy ii IMO......this site is really cool, i've learned alot about these motors since becoming a member.....gen 3 will probably save you a few bucks and can be made to run really well......iron 5.3's can be bought and built fairly cheap, but every now and then you can find a 2002-2004 Z06 engine pop up locally on craigslist

I know this is an old thread, but I figured I would update this. I did get a motor to swap in it. It is a supposed high mileage 6.0 from a Chevy truck. It's obviously not the aluminum block that we were wanting, but I got it for free so I am not complaining. Plans are a stock rebuild with only upgrades needed to make it fit. Should be a fun car with the added power and a little weight loss. That 283 just has to go.
