Default New to site. 240Z LS1 swap

Hello.. I'm just starting my Z car project. Very familiar with building cars but this is my first LS1 project. Motor is 5.7 out of 2000 Camaro 241 heads. Going to do a complete rebuild. I'm keeping the stock bore going to gasket match heads with mild porting. Looking at the lS6 intake. Don't really know much about the LS cams... I don't want to go real big just thinking a little larger than stock.. any suggestions would be great. Thanks
Duane.

Welcome,

Comp Cams #54-424-11 (212/218 115lsa+0, lift .558"/.563"), it's big enough to make a clear difference over a stock cam including the popular LS6 cam(204/218 117.5lsa-2.5, lift .551"/.547", IVC 42* ), but still small enough to be stock like DD friendly. With having -15* overlap(@.05" lift) it'll sound stock, and should peak around 6100rpm with a 41* IVC. The ramp rate on it Xtreme RPM(high lift) lobes is 53* so the lobes are fairly mild and a set of PAC 1218 beehive(single) valve springs will be plenty to control that cam. You could probably get by without a tune, but it'll be at it's best with a good tune. Now if you want a noticeably larger cam that's still very streetable with a good tune and has a easily heard cam sound, then the Comp Cams #54-428-11 (228/230 112lsa+2, lift .571"/.573", IVC 44, with 5* overlap) would get my vote. The cam lobes have the same ramp rated as the 54-424-11 cam listed above so the same PAC 1218 valve spring will still work great. I'd also recommend Long tube headers with this larger cam and it's small I./E. duration split.
