Default Considering blasphemy

Hi everyone. I am new to the group. I have been a car lover for as long as I can remember.

I have owned a 63 Fairlane for the last 13 years. I bought the car in high school and has served me very well, most of that time with a 5.0 HO.

There are things about the SBF that has always bothered me. Mostly the dumb timing chain cover/ water pump setup. The car has always used coolant no matter the motor (four 5.0 HOs). I have decided to take the plunge.

It started with a bellhousing from a 1989 Astro Van. That should allow me to use my Ford T5 behind a typical SBC. With some more work, I should be able to put it behind the 5.3l I just picked up via a 2000 Chevy truck.

The goal is a reliable setup with decent mileage. I may put a mild cam. I will use a car intake.

Thanks for for letting me in.

Wade

Cool. Though a 5.0 is a cool motor for that car as well. A lot easier to get power out of an LS though. Good luck!

I've put 120k miles on the 5.0 HO motors. It is time for a change. Its just metal, right? :-)

Four 5.0s. Did they keep blowing up on you?

Some pics of the old setup would be nice.

Very cool project. Your making the right decision by swapping to the LS.

I always thought the 63-64 Fairlane's were up there (T-Bolt); probably going to be a lot of hurt feelings with a LS in it.

Good luck with your swap.

For some reason people think that 60s Fords are sacred. There are people that would be totally okay dumping a SBC into a 32 Ford that would think that putting one in a Mustang is sacrilegious. We can be an odd bunch. :-)

At the end of the day this is just a car and there are plenty left with Ford power. And really there is nothing that can be reversed with a welder and time.

I don't know if it's the 60's as a whole; I was thinking because it was one they consider up on a pedestal. Like if you did a 65, I doubt many would care.
Guy I know has a LS turbo swap in his Falcon and nobody bats a eye at it.

Anyway have fun and good luck.
