Default 18 Years and 315,426 miles, and still in love

Guys, for many years I have sought advice here--thanks. The other day my 2001 Sunset Orange Metallic SS shot a spark plug out of #7 cylinder, and I decided it's time to drop the motor. I am old and more comfortable with 327s and 350s, but I have the motor on the stand, and ready to go back together (after a little tanking and honing at the machine shop). Born in Detroit, I love american muscle, and cars with only two doors.

Bra, but no panties.

SS still looks good. You are the original owner?

Why did it shoot a spark plug out?

Only time I've seen that on a gm is if someone leaves the plug loose, it'll wear out the threads until the plug shoots out. Or somehow the threads were jacked up and someone rammed a plug in anyway, it would shoot out under that scenario.

Fords are really bad about it from 97-04 because they only had a few threads in the head that the plugs threaded into.

Sweet! 315,000+ miles with the same Camaro, I definitely admire that! Would like to see more pictures if you have a chance.

BTW - I have a 91 RS Camaro bought new that had 389,500 miles when LS swapped. I appreciate all high mile Camaro's and Firebirds

As to why I shot out a plug? Color me clueless. I have been working on cars my whole life--I know how to properly snug up a plug, and I'm the only one who has ever touched the car. I have only myself to blame.

Minus some wiring harness work (I'm hand-over-handing everything, and going back with Chevrolet orange wire looming), the engine is ready to go back in this weekend. I have a few pictures:

Went back with a Comp Cams XFI RPM High Lift 54-424-11, associated valve springs, timing, etc.

Speed Engineering headers, Stage 8 bolts, MSD coil packs, etc. the Deitsch Werks injectors are bought, but will have to wait for the chassis dyno to go on.
