Default New. . . sorta

Well, I'm kinda new here. The names John. I've been lurking for a while. Just trying to dig up some important info for my project car.

I have an '89 WS6 Formy with a puny 305. I'm planning a swap to an 8.1, if I get the info I need. I'm just looking for something streetable, yet rare.

Hope you all can help me out!

Hey John,

I have an 89 Formula also - check out my sig.

Is that your car in the picture? It looks like a 91 or 92 T/A, is why I'm asking. Anyway, good luck with the swap.

Adam

It's a Photoshop concept actually. I plan to do the same RAII hood or a 4" cowl (depends on how high the intake is on the 8.1) and I'm swapping the front and rear to the 91-92 Formula bumpers. That was the only decent pic I could find where I could manipulate the paint color similar to "Copperhead Metallic" and it had the nose and hood I'm looking at.

The car is this one: http://www.daleotools.com/gallery/ca...s.php?cat_id=7
The first 2 are the most recent. i've just been starting on body work first until I get my truck running this week. Then I'll buy my suspension and engine parts over winter.

Welcome to the site. Good luck on your car it will no doubt be one badass setup when you finish. You ever consider dropping a 408 stroker in it?

Thanks for the welcomes.

I did consider quite a few options, but they've all been done before, or over done. So, I went with a different approach. There aren't that many BB 3rd gens, with the usuals being a carb or TBI 400, 454 or 502, streetable. And as far as I know, there are none with the 8.1. But I'm sure someone will come along with deeper pockets than I and steal my thunder by getting it done first, lol. That could be good or bad though.

Yeah i see where your going with the 8.1 (496 ci's if im correct). My bro in-law had a 2500 HD with the 8.1 in it. Really gets up and goes for how big it is. Have u found any decent prices for the 8.1? If i were you, and by the looks of the car, looks like ur on a budget, id go with an LS1 man. I know your going for something different but sometimes **** becomes expensive ex:8.1 genlll conversion. But im guessing the only expensive part will be purchasing the motor. Good luck and post up some pics.

From what I have found out so far, the 8.1 might actually end up cheaper than an LS1 swap. Considering all of the other things I mist do first or during the project. Like all of the chassis work, new rear end, suspension, brakes, steerings, tranny, etc. I woke up too late this morning to put a bid on a motor on eBay. It sold for under $1200 I think.

And, of all the parts going into the project, the motor would be the expensive part. But I have found low mileage complete's for under $2000 pulled from totalled trucks and RV's.

I am on a budget for now since business is slow right now. So I've been working on the body work first while the 305 is still kicking. I've picked up all kinds of parts for dirt cheap or practically free. Last on the list is the bumpers and headlights for the 91-92 conversion, fix the dents and rust, decide on a cowl or RA2 hood, and paint it. Though all of my buying and selling with this car, after totalling everything up, I think I have less than $100 in it now, including buying the car. If I hadn't sold the old parts from my old door, old headlights, etc. I'd have about $600 in it, $350 for the car and $250 in parts, worst being the brakes.

Welcome HanSolo0260, if you change your mind about the 8.1, I have a '94 LT1 motor I don't have any plans for now that I bought my WS-6. I was going to put it in my '91 Camaro, but I've pretty much scrapped that idea. The LT1 has 54,000 miles on it the heads have been completely redone by a local shop. It's in pretty good shape if you change your mind let me know. If not than good luck partner.

Well, I might be interested if I can get ahold of this other 3rd gen Camaro shell I'm looking at. Might do the 8100 in it and an LS1 or LT1 swap in my current Firebird. But with fuel prices where they are, I'll probably never be able to drive them lol.
