Question I'm new too!!!

Hey all whats up. I've always loved LS-1 powered vehicles but never had enough dough. But now its a different story. There are Two F-bodys for sell at a dealer across the street from my house. both 98s. One is a Z-28 6m and the other is my dream redTrans am with T-tops. Except for the fact is a 4 auto. Can the auto be just as fun and as fast to drive as the manual? And what all should I check for before buying. Oh and is the 98 any less powerful than the newer ones.

Thanks for all your help.

David

welcome!

It can be hard to pass up a good deal, but if auto isnt what you want, I think you should let it go. Save up some more, and eventually youll find the one of your dreams in a fun 6 speed. The autos though are not really slower, entirely a matter of taste...

Both cars sound nice. 98 isnt the quickest year as it was the 1st year for the f-body ls1s... so im guessing there were still some issues to be worked out...

and yet they will still eat about anything else on the street.

goodluck man!

Hey, whats up, David? Good to have you with us!

Both the cars that you've mentioned sound cool. I mean, you aren't going to go wrong with an ls1! It may be a difficult decision, however, based on what you've said. On one hand you have an M6 on the other your dream Trans Am. I dig M6's, but when it comes to having your dream car (I also had to have my dream Trans Am, lol!) it can be hard to pass up. I am afraid at this point it would simply be my opinion.

I would see what the other members have to offer in the way of advice, but in the end...get the one you believe you will be happiest with!

As for the year...there were slight changes each year but I think you'll be pretty content with a 98!

Thumbs up

98 A4's kick ***. their poor reputation with some people in entirely opinion based. If you want the m6, save for it. there are plenty of red T/A's in M6. But if you dont mind the tranny, get the one near you. its entirely up to you. but I can guarantee you that having an A4 is no less fun whatsoever than having an m6.

either way good luck friend and welcome to the site.

Welcome to the boards.I have a 98 A-4 that I am just starting to mod,not because it's slow,it's because I know how much faster it can be made to go.

welcome.not that they are slower,it might be a little more boring not shifting, but they are still about they same speed but with auto cars you can always get a torque converter to get your car movin.

Thanks for all the replies!!!! This is by far one of the best site with the nices group of people I've ever been on. Still debating an whether to get the auto TA or 6 speed Z28. I know they're the same car but nothig looks as menicing and intimidating as the TA with the WS-6 Ram air hood. Oh man I remember driving an 02 ws6. Seem like people were just moving out of the way. lol It was a auto too and seem like a slower vette to me. I'll have to test this TA out and then make a choice. If its quick like I hope it is then maybe I wont mind the auto.
And to make things worse he's got them parked side by side facing towards my house. Even morning I wake up and look out the window and go Oh well I'll have one soon.

I know what you mean. I think in retrospect I would've gotten a WS6 instead of my Z28 had I waited a bit longer. They look so formidable, like almost no other car on the road.

Yeah your right about that one. Its suppose to be hot here too and I still dont have me TA!!!! Oh well at least the top comes off on the Del Sol.
Oh and why cant I post in the sell forum? I have a few things I wouldn't mind getting rid of such as my paintball marker and my laptop. What gives?

If you like to drag race, go for the T/A. Get a high stall torque converter in that thing and hang on. I have an 01 Z28 with a 3500 stall converter and long tube headers and run a 12.40. Plus you don't have to worry about missed shifts and bent pushrods. Just one way of looking at it.

Yeah, I was out earlier with the tops out, but I have a belt thats whining pretty bad and I hate to drive it when it sounds like that. I was waiting on my landlord to come home so I could use his garage and put on my underdrive pulley!

Don't tell that to my car. It likes to pull the front wheels off the ground when people say that.

I test drove them both today Took the bird first. I still cant believe the guy let me go by myself. I guess me muttering something about being in the military must have helped. Oh man, that car was quicker that I remember them to be. All I heard was the sweeeeeeeeeeet song the ls1 makes. ahhh I was in heaven. 100 came way too fast and the rear likes to side step in the corner but I must say my blood hasn't rushed like that in a long time. I even got a race in at one of the lights. poor guy in the stang didn't know what hit him. The Z28 was just as fun but the clutch seemed like it was slipping. well after a tire smoking afternoon I've decided I need to row gears myself and will wait for a 6speed Red TA to pop up. Oh well guess I wont be joining you guys as soon as I thought but I will own a TA!!!!!

Oh and how many miles is too many for a LS-1? The TA had 100,000 on the clock but seem like it was still in good running order.

Thanks

David

i too traded a del sol (mine was a 94 DOHC VTEC with 5x,xxx miles on it in 2002) for a 99 ws6. i love the sound the feel the.....oh wait see now i went and messed myself. nice day outside today guess ill go play. btw mine is a a4. and read all the stickeys for newbies. you may decide you like the thought of another year more. such as the 2001&2002 having ls6 intakes. and slightly better headers. oh and the mileage thing isnt that big of a issue i personally have 93000 on mine. i just wouldnt want a high mileage modded car.

OH yeah. I know the little changes. lmao I been following and watching the LS-1 ever since in came out back in 97 and suddenly the vette wasn't slow anymore. We will see. Since I'm holding out until I find my red one, maybe it will be a newer model. Man I cant wait to be smoking them rear tires. Smoking front ones is getting kinda boring.
