Default New with BMW?!

Hello, I'm new. Never been to a forum before.
My name is Luke, I live in Glendale, Arizona (west side of Phoenix) and I have a black 1992 BMW 318is 2dr coupe with a Chevy LS1 and T-56 6-speed, and 3.91 rear gears, all of which I did myself. I'm just looking to meet friends and learn more about these engines.

Sure, go to www.nash8503.com that is where I got my kit to do the swap and the guy is really good! I was the first to buy and use the kit and since then I think he has sold about 7 or 8 kits!

That **** aint cheap but seems like everything is there.

How did your install go.. did you run into any problems ?

Do you have AC and cruise control ?
ANy electrical gremlins after the swap ?

How much the the car weight with the ls1 ?
What kind of times are you running ?

(sorry for all the questions)

no, it ain't cheap, but I had the money from the military after a deployment and used it. The install went just fine, I did it in a barn in Iowa with my own tools. The instructions with the kit were really complete. The hardest part was redoing the wiring harness and waiting for the parts to get shipped. The whole install took about 3 months, but it was the first kit and most of the time was spent waiting. I think I could do the same swap again with all the parts in about 3 weeks! As for the cruise control and A/C, I don't have them, but all I need for the A/C is a connector for the hoses and one more sensor to tell the system when to turn on and off the A/C clutch! If anyone needs someone to do an install, I would love to do it again!

I have had the car running for about a year and so far, the only problems have been the Check-Engine light because I have no Evap Emissions system or Secondary Air valve in the exhause, not to mention no Cats! Also, the car had so much torque that it litterally Ripped the whole subframe from the body of the car! I had to reinforce all of that. As for the weight, it is only a couple of hundred pounds heavier than the 318is, but is actually lighter than an M3 by a couple hundred pounds!
I haven't ran it at sea level yet, but up in the mountains with 20% less power, I ran a 13.9 @104mph spinning the tires half way down the track!

the M3 has a very heavy iron block unlike the LS1 (Aluminum block and heads)

nope! just a little pounding to the passenger side at one point for about 1/2 inch clearance for the back-up light sensor.

Nice ride and perfect user-name. I'm curious, were you going for a sleeper effect at all? I see you gave your car a lot of the M3 cues so what kind of badges are on it? Also, what exhaust setup do you have? I'm curious because I formerly drove a 328i conv. of the same model (E36) before I got a Camaro.

The M3 ground effects kit was on the car when I bought it 3 years ago in Germany. As for the exhaust, it has custom headers to fit the car and an x-pipe with 2 2-1/2 inch exhaust tubes running back into a dual-inlet Flomaster muffler and a 4-1/2 inch by 2 inch oval European exhaust tip angled up 45 degrees with a resonator.
