Default New UK member...

Hi all, I was directed here from a Camaro owner over on N2S, so thought Id check it out. Im 20 and from the UK, people call me Grez and I run my own photography business. I currently drive a '93 Nissan 200SX (UK spec version of your 240SX, CA18DET engine - 1809cc turbo 4 cyl) @ 274bhp/ton, and Im a track racer at heart.

Basically, I was looking for a first gen Camaro with a small block V8, but have given up due to people asking ridiculous amounts of money for a car that, if Im honest with myself, would have turned me into a poser rather than a racer. A '00 Z/28 has come up for sale a few miles from me, and although its an automatic, I actually really like it. Im not inclined to buy it especially, largely because its an auto, and also because IMO its overpriced (£10k GBP ~ 20k USD). However, it has re-kindled my love affair for Camaros, so I am on the lookout to import one. However, I do have some questions...

-How is the LT1 engine compared with the LS1? Which is better, and for what reasons?
-When did the Camaro receive the LS1 rather than the LT1?
-Whats the handling like on the Z/28?
-Is it worth paying the extra for the Bilsteins on the SS, or is it better to buy a Z/28 then aftermarket coilovers?
-Are there any common problems with Camaros?

Also, if anybody has any pics to put up to inspire me to buy one, go ahead!

Thanks

Welcome. Sounds and looks like a nice car ya got there. As far as LT1 Vs. LS1....the LS1 stock for stock will bitchslap the the LT1. Both engines are very easily modded, and although the LT1 cars will be cheaper, you' ll be playing catch-up, just to run with an LS1. The LT1 was rated at 275HP in 93-95, and 285 in 96-97. The LS1 was first released in the F-body in 98, and from 98-00, they were rated at 305, in 01-02, they were bumped to 310, and a little more torquey thanks to the Z06 intake, and a different cam. They are pretty good handling cars. It' s worth it to buy an SS with Bilsteins, if you want an SS. If you plan to change the hood and spoiler, or make other modifications, that will other-wise make it look less like an SS, just get a Z28, and build it like you want it. Ultimately, no matter which way you go, coilovers should be a big improvement over stock OR Bilsteins, from what I' ve heard anyway. Hope this helps you a little.

Hah, I love that term. Anyway, thanks a lot for the information, Ill keep an eye out for a later SS then. Whats the tuning potential with these things? Ive heard head and cam work putting out crazy numbers, any truth to this? Is there anyone on these boards who track-races their Camaro?

Thanks again.

If you are going to mod it then motors do not make a difference as they both can be made fast. You could find an lt1 cheap and tear it apart and do it right.
