It is very tough to see what's going on for sure with the pictures provided. Maybe it is just surface rust. If they do not rot through, then you have nothing to worry about as far as performance. FWIW, my SS Kooks are over a year old and just have the brownish color that all SS headers get if not posihed, and they are still as smooth to the touch as the day I took them out of the box. Are your Long Tubes rough when you drag your fingers along the steel?

Default it is this easy

It is this easy. Take the headers off the car and send them back. We will send you a new set. We were closed last week so this is the first time we are hearing of this issue. We strive for customer satisfaction. Guys we produce over 5000 sets of headers a year by hand. We have never had a customer service issue we could not resolve in some way or another. If anyone would like to discuss this further feel free to call us at 631 586 9002 anytime.

You need to step out of this thread and STFU. The vendor is bending over backwards to help this guy and you're just running your mouth.

Just by reading thru this thread, it's obvious that this is an isolated case. Regardless, George is taking care of the matter in a very stand-up way. But, what really got me laughing is your last comment.....if you honestly believe that, you're an ignorant fool. Thanks for your worthless contribution to this thread.

I'm about to install some Kooks LTs on my car in the next few weeks and love their product, thanks George!

Certain types of stainless will corode, not necesarilly "rust" under different condtions (though it may look similar). It all depends on what Type of stainless it is and what conditions it is subjected too.

I really appreciate the offer. I have no tools nor money nor time to have them removed so they will remain on the car. Perhaps one day when the rust through i'll mail them back to you but for now it's just not that big of a concern to me. I was more curious as to why it happened or if i did something wrong or if perhaps kooks had this issue with other headers. It's only my headers that have done this apparently and Kooks has laid down the ultimate reconciliation of offering to send me a new set but alas it's not really any help to me at this point in time.

Valve springs are the main focus right now, my car is just plagued with problems. I get the only set of heads from ET with defective springs, yeah they'll send out new springs (if i pay for them) but who the hell is going to install them, same as my rusting headers from Kooks, who's going to remove and install them? It's not really a matter of resolving the problem it's just something that happened that i wished didnt happen. I bought expensive high quality parts to avoid having these problems yet unreliability is still present in even the most prestine of companies. Don't mind me though I'm just not happy with anything tonight.

i dont wanna sound negative, but if you dont have the tools or the time, having a heads/cam car prolly isnt the right choice.
if you took pics with the valve covers off, all the hard work is over.
id see if some buds can help out that have the tools.
shouldnt take more than an hour or so to replace the entire set, unless you are just doing one, and its a snap.
good luck.

hahah no offense but i HIGHLY doubt that....... kooks have probably over tripled in size in the last year or 2 i bet....... and i only see them getting bigger......a business doesnt double in size for no reason........quality and performance is what kooks is after and i beleive they have it on lock.......

Guys, no more talk about Kooks vs. QTP. They're both quality companies. Leave it be.

As far as the issue at hand, Shawn, why would you leave a set of faulty headers on your car? You've spent all that money on it, yet you want to leave headers the manufacturer even said to send back to have replaced. If I were you, I'd go out and buy some cheap tools and do that **** yourself.

It does look odd that you also have corrosion on the bolts, and even the tips of the plugs have something on top. ( moisture?? )

Does the car sit somewhere that would be exposed to extreme temperature or humidity changes ?

Some grades of stainless do rust. In a lot of cases the stainless used in headers isnt the highest grade, simply because top grade stainless can be very brittle and difficult to bed.
Obviously headers require a lot of bending, so you might find using a lower grade is necessary.

I agree with George, they are using a very high quality stainless steel for their headers. 300 series austinetic stainless (304L in their case) is the most corrosion resistant of any of the stainlesses. The cheaper headers are made from 400 series and they will rust.

Well how far are you away from Kook's? MAYBE they would help with the replacement? Just a thought.

LOL that is hilarious...you really should shut up like NEXT said if you knew what was really going on.....if Kooks went out of business, it certainly wouldn't be good for QTP

Then who is changing the valve springs? Have that person do it for you.
