Smile SLP a class act

Back in mid-2005 I purchased a ZL402 from SLP. I picked up the car from my tuner with the new motor in September of 2005. After putting it together I had some issues with oil burning. Initially I thought to give it some time to let the rings seat so put about 1000 miles on it and then stored for the Winter.

In April of 2006 I got the car out of storage and put some more miles on it... the problem persisted. After lifting out of the throttle in particular I was getting a lot of smoke out of the exhaust. It was also blowing oil out of my breather setup and figured that there was a problem with the PCV and oil was being sent in to the top of the motor. The PCV was inspected and I installed a catch can... the problem persisted.

A compression test was done and the numbers were solid so we pulled the heads and inspected all of the valvle seals which were fine. After putting it back to together the problem persisted so last month I decided to pull it from storage and have it disassembled since there had to be something wrong in the shortblock.

Before pulling the engine I got in touch with Hank Daniecki at SLP to talk about the problem. Hank was awesome. He sent a crate to my tuners shop and told me to send the shortblock to SLP so that they could disassemble it and see what was wrong.

Once SLP received it, it was proven that all of the parts were installed correctly. The bores were good dimensionally, the pistons checked out dimensionally and the rings were gapped and installed correctly. The problem was glaringly obvious though, #5 and #7 bores had two long scores that could not be removed with a ball hone. The block would need to be bored .010".

There must have been some debris in the shortblock that caused this problem. How it got there and when noone can be sure but SLP stepped up and are sending me a brand new shortblock.

Hank has been outstanding to deal with throughout the entire process, never have I been treated so well by a company.

I honestly doubt that I would have gotten this sort of treatment by any other company had I gone to them with my problem. Hats off to Hank and the crew at SLP.

It's good to hear that they are backing up their products and you are satisfied with their help.

I think this should go in the feedback area though.

Default SLP/Hank = Good Guy

I have spoken with Hank and he is a straight shooter.

I have no fears as I wait to install my SLP ZL-402. As soon as I get my heads back from the shop I'll be ready (almost).

I agree that SLP is a Class Act! They gave me the same superb customer service for an engine problem too.

I agree and congrats! I used to deal with Keven woodruff and he's an awesome guy! Always went WAAAY out of his way everytime to be sure I was taken care of no matter what and THEN some! I used to own '91 Firehawk #003 and even when it came to old school parts, he always hooked it up! Even when it came to the C.A.R.B. sticker for the Tri-Y's on my SLP optioned GTA.
