Default Shifting Question

Hey guys I was thinking about changing around the shift points to help eliminate that nasty lag right after the 1-2 shift at the bottom end of 2nd gear. I have HPTuners and was looking at the mph at which the car shifts and was wondering if I lower the mph when the car shifts out of 2nd gear to say 75-80ish and keep 1st gear the same maybe i can eliminate that nasty "****" the car takes when it shifts. What do you guys think?

Never noticed a 1-2 lag before. I do hate the fact that the car falls out if it's powerband on the 2-3 shift, but thats because of the shitty gearing we have in the transmission.

I think there is lag in second personally. Seems to drop the motor just below the power band. Its amplified for me with the loss of power from the high altitude.

I have my shifts commanded at 6150 to take into account the lag so if shifts at 6250 for the 1-2 and 2-3. A $10 shift kit helped immensely, by the way (I posted another thread on this not long ago.)

EDIT: I just noticed the OP already has a shift kit. Not enough beer...

Also, please excuse the following photo...I just wanted to see two GNs in this thread. <-- what I am doing now...really!

I played around with this for awhile with HP tuners and never got it worked out right. If you do get it out please do a screen shot!

105 on the street is silly. if you havent pulled away by then its time to call it a night. whats the gear ratio drop off from 1st to 2nd. the 700 in my 80s drop is retarded but on the street it shouldnt matter that much. street as in stop light to stop light.

Yeah, I've felt the third gear woes as well. Good thing the other guy gave up and turned down another street.

[scratched up record]

The 6 speed (6T75) would be our "cure" (G8 transmissions for comparison):

6T75 | 4T65E-HD | 6L80 | TR-6060
Gear ratios:
First: 4.484 | 2.92 | 4.027 | 2.66
Second: 2.872 | 1.56 | 2.364 | 1.78
Third: 1.842 | 1 | 1.532 | 1.30
Fourth: 1.414 | 0.7 | 1.152 | 1.00
Fifth: 1 | N/A | 0.852 | 0.79
Sixth: 0.742 | N/A | 0.667 | 0.63
Reverse: 2.882 | 2.38 | 3.064 | 2.90
Final drive ratio:
3.16 | 2.93 (GXP, Super)/3.05 (CX, CXL)/3.29 (SS) | 3.27 (G8 GXP) | 3.70 (G8 GXP)

[/scratched up record]

We wouldn't feel the third gear woes until we hit fifth! That gives us third and fourth to play with.

I would suggest getting a turbo. I have no issues with 2nd or 3rd gear being a dog, but then you’ll be looking at a whole new set of tranny issues.

A turbo is $5k+.

If done correctly and fairly, this transmission swap shouldn't be nearly as high.

I wasn’t being serious. Anybody that gets a turbo will be getting a built trany. Its inevitable.

i dont really run from a roll on a dead *** highway. its more like 8th mile type **** on the street. idk to me its silly dragging next to someone at 105mph on a two lane road when the cars trap under that in the quarter. idk maybe im just crazy. i dont think that when your drag racing someone you should be in third in these cars and certainly not well into third. just my thoughts on it. and like i said if you havent started to pull before third its time to call it quits cause if you couldnt do it in first or second you sure as **** arent doing it in third. just my thoughts. carry on.

yeah i get what ur sayin. there arent many good racers and know what there doin. up here its mostly from a roll on the highway cuz every paved road has nasty potholes. and there are 5 different police departments in the i live in, CMU (university) campus police, city, sherrifs department, state and Tribal police. in a town with only 20k people. so and stoplight to stoplight is not really an option around here either. lol so pretty much just highway or dirt road lmao

My MCSS has seen its fair share of dirt road runs. Hey, I'm from Alabama, give me a break.
