Default switching back& forth in gears question

Ive noticed ever since i got this car, that if im in reverse and/or drive and decide to switch between them (after i come to a full stop) i feel as though the tranny is taking longer than usual to finally switch gears. If i put my foot down on the gas as soon as i switch the car will jerk hard depending on how much i pressed down the gas..... then move.

Ive driven other cars particularly a camry and an acura mdx and they dont seem to have this jerk issue. If i press down the gas as soon as i switch, the car won't move only until it's in gear- and then it will go. Mind you, my foot is on the gas throughout this whole process.

I guess there must be some kind of throttle regulator which will allow the car to move only once it's in gear.

Any thoughts or opinions?

take your foot off the throttle and wait a sec for it to engage. Very stupid thing to do

The very title of this question is why it chunks and clunks and feels like it is dying...

In drivers training they teach you not to do this...you did take driver's training right....

Come to a complete stop, don't throttle it at all.

After the car is completely stopped, move gear selector to desired gear change.

Wait until the transmission has engaged desired gear, then proceed to accelerate.

One of you guys should try it to see what im talking about lol. Anyway the point is that this car takes a little longer to shift gears then many other cars that ive driven. Not sure if this is how the tranny is normally or if there is a possible issue.

Have you by chance been through an oddly high amount of transmissions in your lifetime?

I believe on the ls4s the computer goes through a series of checks before you actually move. You usually don't feel/notice it but i'm sure if you do something dumb you will.
You are just lucky you havn't driven anything with real power and try that.

When a transmission takes a long time to go into gear typically means that you are having some kind of tranny problem.

But like everyone said you must wait till it goes in gear.

Good luck...I just had the tranny rebuilt on my wifes Bonneville and the price was well above what I thought it would be, I almost choked.
