Has nothing to do with the number of cylinders. The LSx engines are notorious for burning oil. A quart every 1200 or so miles is on the high side, but not unheard of. I have to add one about every 3000 myself, more often if I am exercising the little V8 a bit harder than normal.

If your car is losing a full quart every 1000 miles then you should take it to the dealer to be serviced. That is way more than normal and indicates a problem. The LS engines do lose oil and this is normal and not a bad thing at all. But you should only lose about 1/2 quart between oil changes. So your oil loss is not normal.

I do not see the oil level drop from the full line between oil changes.(10000 kilometers or 1 year whichever comes first. (7500 miles)) I drive it hard always!

valve seals?

and this was on a 2008! If the dealer did not see the blue cloud coming they certainly would of smelt it running and leaving. If the dealer does not fix it ,top off the oil, fill the gas tank , get a thermos of coffee and some dounuts. Then back up to the entrance of their lot and leave it run until they cant take it any more.
OH and once it has idled for awhile if it is the valve seals there will be a pronounced amount of smoke with just a shot of the gas pedal once in a while.
If you have a tele with you call your local tv station to come and see the new car with emmissions. But only do this after the dealership has sat in the cloud for awhile.

I just started burning oil. 68K miles, I thought I was safe, but the right before my last oil change the low oil warning came on. Had to pour almost a quart in just to dump it out two days later. I didn't notice any leaks.

As mentioned, the LSx engines do use up oil, but I don't know if you should be losing that much. I actually go 6000 miles between changes on Mobil1 and I've only had to add oil once, and it needed less than quart and that was after about 5000 miles or so.

I change my oil every 4500 to 5000 miles and the stick always reads the same. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Glad to know if she starts using some oil it is normal though.

Has anyone setup a catch can? That's a good option with LS engines. There's probably some write-ups in the other sections if you search a little.

Every time I've seen gas in the oil it was blowing by the rings. I would do a compression test on it.
