Default Tranny temp

Finally took her for a ride today, man it's been a long winter.

29 degrees outside, tranny got up to 194. Does that seem high?

I was using the tap shift a little bit and running it a little hard.

Mine sits at about 190-210 during normal city driving, just driving normally. Only time its any cooler is if I get on the freeway soon after start up, then it stays at about 180. Tapshift is usually 215-220. I think we need to get a group purchase going on for tranny coolers! haha

Ya i was looking at them the other day at the parts store. I think that will help extend the lives of our trans.

My tranny temps were high too. I bought a perma-cool HD tranny cooler and the zzp aluminum tranny pan and my temps dropped about 25 degrees.

I know this I directed at the 6 cylinders but I think it relates to us to.http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...les1.php?id=23
I made 6 back to back ¼ mile runs the other day and the tranny temp never got over 220.

I talked to my tranny guy and he said the same exact thing as the article.

He does not think i need to put a cooler on at all.

Somehow I don't agree...What would be possible drawbacks if any.

As long as your cooler runs through the radiator, its going to get hot.

Also, wrap the X-over in header wrap and this will also help lower trans temps a few degrees. It is right over the transmission, can't be good for low temperatures. I did that to mine and noticed about a 5 degree difference. Every little bit helps.

I would agree with not putting one on....if you guys think, we already have a reinforced gearbox for the TAPshift anyway. Maybe to compliment it and reduce some of the gear load is keeping the engine off of the ration a bit....by simply installing a MSP Poly-bush and a RAT bone....helps that torque too...Im getting a Accumulator shift kit put on mine to stiff up the shift a bit...but we will see...that is supposed to be enhancing driveability and complement tranny life along with the MSP and RAT bone
