Looking at the link, shows the close up view of the Oil Pressure Sensor, Washer, Oil Filter, and O ring and a close up view of the location. Where is it in the engine compartment, I don't see anything to identify where that is, or even what that 'panel' is.

Sorry for asking a bunch of 'dumb' questions, when I had my Corvette there was a ton of info online about it, and where everything was located. Seems like there is very little technical info out there for these cars.

This is located under the plastic 'engine cover', right? Makes a little more sense now...

yes take the cover off and it is right by the back of the throttle body where it connects to the manifold. I found picture to help you out. The braided line in the red circle it is right under that. Sorry i could not get a better picture for you.

Just started getting P0521 on my 2006 Impala SS too. Just got back from a long road trip. One thing I did that may have caused it is I added oil (because it was low) but I think I added a little bit more than I should have. The light came on a day or two later, and I got an oil change as soon as possible. It came back, and I've reset it 4 times and it comes back every time - definitely a problem.

Does anybody with a scantool know if this sensor is accessible over OBD? I have a tool but I don't see the PID listed, even in the advanced GM PIDs section.

Personally, I have no clue if it's accessible over OBD, but I would guess no. It's cheap enough, and easy enough just to replace it. Got mine for $65 here: http://www.gmpartshouse.com/

Gene is a good guy with GREAT prices! (No affiliation, just had great service time and time again).

Is your car switching to 4cyl mode?

@cubsmurf Thanks for the link.
My car seems be locked to 8-cyl mode, even after I clear the code. Internally I think it knows that there's a problem and it just wants to be sure before setting a DTC.

The Fuel economy is absolutely horrible while locked in 8-cyl mode. Otherwise I wouldn't be so quick to fix the sensor.

Yeah, it's the sensor. It's easy to fix. honestly. Once it's switched out, it will start switching into 4cyl mode, but you will still need to clear the check engine light.

As stated above, you just need a 27mm deep socket, otherwise it's simple!

Agreed! Right up there with changing the brake pads on my 87 Porsche. Sounds 10x more intimidating than it actually is!

Default Fixed!

Fixed!
Took all of 10 minutes. Thanks for everybody's help on this forum (pics, socket description, etc).

Tools needed:
- Oil pressure sensor. I got mine from the dealership for $80
- 27mm Deep well socket with extension to reach down in there

After replacing it, I drove around for a bit, reset the DTC with my Android app and immediately displacement-on-demand (DOD) started working again. It's no longer locked in 8-cyl mode.

@Hawkins, do you change your own oil? any chance that you over-filled it? I think overfilling my oil is what burned mine out.
