Default IMPY vs SRT 4

ended up racing an srt 4 tonight and well all i got is besides the fact that it has a 99 percent chance of blowing up ( its still a crapy neon) there pretty fast.. I have no idea what mods were done to his car since i just met with him as he was getting onto the highway but i could tell he had a downpipe and exhaust as it was f'in loud and you know how they sound with the downpipe and exhaust.

well we met at a street light where the highway ends and we both launched and he had me by a car length the whole time. I had him up to 60 and he just started pulling, no much but enough. We thenwere just driving next to each other at about 60 and i turned my light on to signal the 3 honk thing lol. Honked three times and bam it was like neck to neck and he again just started pulling slightly away.. Slowed down after getting up to 120. He had me at about half a car maybe one full length.. I gave up.. I was hoping his car blow up or something..

So my question is if i hada tune, u think i could of had the extra boost to take the win or keep up.. Current mods i got down are CAI, throttle body spacer and magnaflow cat back system..

the advantage to the srt 4 is probably almost the 1000 pound weight difference..

I would practice your launch cause you should be able to out launch him just for the fact you have more weight up front and its also harder for him to launch a maunal than for you with the auto.
add a downpipe and tune and it should help you get that car lenght back.

My buddy has dumdumdumdumdum making over 300 fwhp and even when i was stock i could hold him off till 60 just for the simple fact he can't hook up and than he blows by at 60 or so.

If you know how to drive, the S R T 4's aren't that hard to drive. My brother ran 14.0 @ 98mph in his stock S R T 4Neon, with low 2.0 60 foots.

On the same note, I just got beat by my friends RSX-S today, he'd creep by me on the top end. I don't feel bad though, he makes around 215-220whp and traps at least 100mph.

dumdumdumdumdum's are loud stock. No muffler on resonators from the factory. They pull good in the midrange. So he was probally close to stock.

dumdumdumdum's can be very fast depending on mods. I had one that I ran mid 11's with at the track. With slicks of course.

I laughed at your comments about "hoping it blows up". Lots of kids mod those cars incorrectly and do just that.

I've had one try to race me three times on my way home from work in the last two weeks. I dont street race anymore like when I was younger so it isnt gonna happen. I can tell he has mods, definatly an exhaust at the least. The last year for these when they came out with the limited slip differental thay were running 13.9 stock so he would probably win anyway unless he cant drive. I'm hoping to get my car to the track this year to see what it will run but I doubt it's in the 13teens. Be carefull and good luck.

They're definitely very quick. Stock they're capable of high 13's and 5.3 to 60. And modded it's easy to make a lot of power from that pretty easily.

I remember when i was getting out of highschool in 2004 and every almost kid had these. No i dont see many around. Are they actually dieing just as fast as the reg neons?

All i got to say is if i had the ls4 in a 2700 pound car, i whoop him..

Meh, I'd take a turbo 4 over the LS4 in a light car. A couple cheap mods make alot of difference in those cars. Easy to run 12's in them. Yea stock for stock the LS4 makes more power, but I'm sure weighs alot more too. And dollar for dollar the 2.4 would be better mod wise.

And why would you see as many now? They have been out of production for several years now and they were only made for like 3 years.

And what's with the SRT blowing up. You make it sound as if every single car has problems. Any car is going to have problems. Any car that people are heavily modding the way they do those cars there are bound to have potential for some issues in some cars. There are plenty of them that are heavily modded that have no problems. I'm sure people on other forums for other cars are talking about how the trannys tend to go in the LS4 cars and they're also assuming that whenever an LS4 car is brought up that it's gonna blow a tranny up.

That 2.4L engine was a great engine, just unfortunately stuck in a crappy Neon. Any engine that you can spend 500 bucks at your dealer and drop nearly a second off your 1/4 mile time is a winner in my book.

sorry i just am not a fan of neons.. My ex-girlfriend had one and it was a box full of problems (not SRT 4). It just runs in my blood.. Dodge and Ford are my enemys.. Just how i grew up with my enitre family having a GM car or truck.. I hate them no matter what.. I do like how some of the ford and dodge cars look but im a GM fan. Your right that every car has problems but neons have more in my opnion.. Yea the tranny is the shitty part of this car but i rather have the tranny go than the engine.. Im not worried about that b/c i got an 07 which has the 100,000 mile warrenty and everytime is replaced brand new(not rebuilt) it comes with a 3 year 36000 miles tranny warrenty.. I was about the do this in my 01 Grand prix Gt i use to have but didnt want to fork out the 3 grand..

So again im sorry for making the neon sound like its the worst car ever.. Its not, im just a dodge hater and i know a lot of you guys on here bought these LS4 cars b/c you are a GM fan

I have a buddy with a dumdumdumdumdum, it was pretty quick stock; I believe they could run up to a 13.8/sec in the quarter. He has modded it out which made it faster, but now it is unreliable. I.E. If you stomp on it too hard, a hose blows off and he has no turbo pressure or power brakes.

Also, I think we see a lot of dumdumdumdum's because new, they would only run you a max of $23K or $24K. They were the biggest bang for you buck in terms of power and price if you were to buy something new.

Once people step over 380fwhp in those SRT4s then trouble begins. Dodge is notorious for underbuilding their transmissions and the dumdumdumdum follows this rule...I've seen more guys with 40 trim tubros and the like break stuff because it is such a poorly designed car.

Well yea, the Neon was a **** car I'm not disputing that, or even the transmission. Just saying the engine itself was a stud engine. That car suffers from the same thing that the TC Cobalt SS does. It's a great power plant, but unfortunately it's stuck in a Cobalt. Any turbo engine is going to be really mod friendly for cheap for the most part. Short of nitrous, you're going to need alot more than like 500 bucks to drop a second off your 1/4 time in a NA engine.

And I don't care if people hate on Dodges I'm not a Dodge fan by any means myself. Didn't mean to sound like I was pissed off you were hating on that car or anything lol. My point is just that ANY car has its breaking point that once you go over, other things are going to start breaking if you don't upgrade the appropriate parts.

And I understand being a straight up GM fan, that's fine. I don't really have any brand loyalty, if a company makes a car that I like that fits my needs, I'll buy it regardless of what brand it is. Hell look at the Hyundai Genesis coupe...if I were looking for a 2 door car that would probably be right at the top of my list. And there was a time when I would have never even considered a Hyundai.
