Default Muffler Suggestions

Hey everyone. I'm going to be getting an Impala SS within the next week and I never leave exhaust stock on anything. I have to be able to hear my vehicles. Anyway, what are some suggestions? I've been browsing for several says now and I haven't seen much trial and error or differentiation as far as mufflers go with you guys. I'd like to try something new. As far as your experience goes, what is the closest sounding engine to an LS4? For research's sake.

BTW, I really love Corsa but REALLY hate the price. The smooth, screaming sound is what I'm going for, over the crackling flowmaster.

Not having the car yet, I can't go look...is there room for a muffler to be welded in in place of the resonator?

Well, if you want smooth, I can tell you the Dynomax Ultra-flo (SS welded) mufflers are just that. Low and smooth. Quiet too. Had mine on for about 1200 miles or so and they have gotten slightly louder and deeper, but nothing that would cause anyone to turn their head at it's passing. The Magnaflow systems I have heard would be closer to a Corsa sound, higher pitched then the Dynomax UF's. I had a set of Heartthrob double walled mufflers before and they were considerably louder at idle and under load, no drone (double walled) and I would say they sat right in the middle between stock and FM 40's, but without any crackling. They were my favorite ones so far, was hoping for a little more volume with the UF's, but they are quieter and sound more generic, less thumpy I guess, deeper sounding, but more of a hum, at least from the inside. So if smooth is what you are after, you might want to look at them. They were quieter than stock at first, the brick of matting inside needs time to break up and start moving around, got louder every day, may still be doing it, but it has been over 2 and a half weeks and 1200-1400 miles since they were put on, so I think they are about as broken in as they are going to get.

IF anyone wants a complete Magnaflow exhaust kit for the 5.3, I have one that was on the car I brought for only 1000 miles before getting my custom exhaust done.

250.00 is what I would like to get for it.

So, what if I did the hearthrob double walled or the Ultra Flow in place of the resonator and then used two small SLP resonators in the back in place of stock mufflers and run 3" tips out the stock locations? It may be worth trying.

I wanted to do that...the GTO uses the SLP Loudmouth2, just resonators, I think it sounds sweet.

Do the Impala SS's have 2.25", 2.5" or 3" exhaust?

I have just about decided on Borla XR-1 mufflers and keeping the stock resonator for the time being. Here's a video:

How difficult is it for an exhaust shop to put a 2.5" muffler on a 2.25" system?

Amazing. As soon as my dealer gets the car in I'm placing my order for two XR-1's. I'll get a video up for you guys once they go on!

I had Hooker Max Flow installed yesterday and love them. Smooth, mellow, no rasp and get loud when you step on it. Interior noise is very quiet and not to loud and droney.
