LS engines use small, low tension piston rings to reduce friction, increase power and fuel economy. Therefor, they use oil! Its a common weel known and accepted fact. Probably will use more synthetic oil then conventional oil since synthetic flows better/easier. Anyway, keep an eye on your oil levels. Mine has gone down over 2 quarts before oil light came on!

My SS uses 1/2 a quart in about 7000 miles.
And before you all kill me on the oil change interval, understand that our car sees ALL highway miles (180 mile DAILY round-trip). We change it when the oil life monitor gets to 15%.
And we use Royal Purple.

anyone that kills you on the oil change interval is stupid because even using the oil life monitor, (like we should), at least for me, it's giving me at least 7000 mile oil change intervals. and I do about 90% city driving.

No point in needlessly throwing money at oil, especially at $8 or so a quart.

I used to change the oil every 3000 miles on this car, but the stuff I was draining was always real clean. So, I did some research on the oil life monitor and learned that the car knows best.

To stay on topic though, yea changing it every 3k miles doesn't need to happen. Just a way to sell more oil and make more $$. Just think, who says to do that? Not GM but every darn oil company tells you that you should (Valvoline, Mobil, etc). I used change my oil every 3k miles but that was when a qrt of oil was just over a buck.
