Default Turbo...?

Ok, I am speaking to ZZP on making a turbo kit for our cars. I e-mailed them with the CT kit and told him we need a less expensive alternative. He makes those for the 3800's ($2799.00) and I personally know people with those turbos and love them. I don't see why he cannot make one for us around 3 grand. If he comes back with a price close to that I am going to get one. I will keep you all informed on his responses.

I don't think there's enough clearance for a supercharger.

Competition is good and a cheaper turbo would be great. I'd like a boost gauge in the DIC if they could.

It may be possible to get the price that low, but a lot of items become "optional." For instance, the first thing to go would probably by the intercooler which is about a $1000 right there. No alky kit either. From what I've seen, a lot of kits in the $3000 range will get you started, but once you add the options back in, you'll be in the $5000+ range.

Don't get me wrong, I love having choices. Cartuning is the only choice right now (and it's a complete kit). Competition is good, and I wouldn't mind seeing what ZZP can offer.

If you want to Knock a little off the price, ditch the meth, cat, LT1 maf, and tuning. Need an intercooler thou.

Ditch the methanol if you like changing head gaskets!

Gotta have the methanol if you want to run any appreciable amount of boost on pump gas, especially with our 9.9:1 compression. I see the benefits of methanol every time I drive my Grand National. In that car, I can only run about 12 PSI boost on pump gas without any KR. With methanol injection, I routinely run 22 PSI boost on the same gas with ZERO KR.

Methanol should be standard any aftermarket turbo kit

they both have there ups an downs, like for my ol honda turbo was the only way to go excellent high end power to help were it really needed it. but with these cars the ls4 has some ***** all the way thru its range, i think a supercharger would be amazing on our cars, if one came out id be in line right away to buy it, turbo ehhh maybe.

I don't know if a supercharger is preferrable. We already have enough traction problems off the line, so waiting a few seconds for a turbo to spool up might be better.

Then again, given the high gearing on these vehicles, you still will have to wait a bit for the turbo to spool even from a roll, so a supercharger has the edge in throttle response in that situation....

I'd love a SC too, but as stated the hood would have to be modified. It would be nice to have another option on the turbo.

Well, I heard back from ZZP and they have already done one. He is getting me pricing right now. I also asked him about the CSC's too for you guys. He used to use Paxton Novi 1000 and 2000 for the N/A L36 motors a few years ago. I will let you all know what he says about that too. I have to agree that would be pretty cool to have one of those as an option too.

Would the hood have to be modified even with a centrifugal type blower, versus a roots type blower? Or is there enough room in there for a centrifugal supercharger?

Sounds good.

It doesn't have to make as much power as the Cartuning kit. Just as long as it makes power and is cheaper.

Well maybe its just me? I'm only running 6 psi on gas no meth. I've got a couple of friends running 10 to 14 psi on LQ9's with gas but they have 9 to 1 I think. I plan on running more boost, but I'll switch to E85 1st. It helps that i have a station down the street.

With the small 66 spool is almost instantaneous.

Oh no, no offense. I'm guessing you've never rode in a turbo'd LS car? I head down your way every once in a while next time I'm down there we'll have to meet up.

Before I got the turbo I had my hands on a ProCharger P1. It's a small centrifugal supercharger and I couldn't get it to fit it under the hood let a lone get it to work. How ever if you move the power steering you might be able to use a Maggie. If you wanted to go that route get a hold of Magnuson it would have to have a shorter snout and intake on the back.

Yeah i would go CSC personally...... Runs cooler, and easier to install. Plus you can dial the boost in same as a turbo....
