Trans Go Shift Kit Installed - First Impressions
Today I finally worked myself up to install my trans go shift kit in the car today. I also replaced the pan gasket and fluid filter while I was in there. I would like to thank BADDLS1SS for his how-to sticky. It can be found at https://ls1tech.com/forums/ls4-front...tch-movie.html. The process was not bad at all, here are some pictures.
The Goods
Oh ****, here we go!
Tranny fluid looked pretty beat for only 27,000 miles
All cleaned up!
****! So while pulling the filter out, I wiggled it a little to much and broke the neck off of the filter and it was still in the tranny.
Thankfully, my trusty vice grips saved the day!
Here is a shot of the accumulator coming out
Here is the disassembled accumulator next to the new springs and spacers
This is a shot of everything buttoned up and my B&M Tranny Drain Plug Kit installed.
The Drive:
Ok this is what everyone wants to hear. This shift kit is not aggressive at all. I had a b&m stage 2 shift kit in my 1989 Formula Firebird, when I was in high school, and that thing was excessive. It would chirp the tires on any shift over 2500 rpms. The transgo is nothing like that. However I am not disappointed at all. The up-shifts have a firmer, positive feel to them. They are also noticeably faster, but I don't see it ripping the tires. The downshifts are MUCH better! They are instantaneous now! Again, not aggressive shifts, but incredibly snappy! This is how the car should have came from the factory.
Would I recommend this? Yes, as long as you are not looking for ripping the tires on the shifts, than you will notice faster shifts and a more positive feel during shifting. For the $65 it costs, I am satisfied.

Raise the line pressure too and you'll get a much firmer shift. Mine shifts pretty fast from 1st to 2nd. You certainly can feel it. I have both the transgo kit and the line pressure raised.

I have not driven enough to notice decreased temperatures, but it is advertised as prolonging transmission life. I cannot explain how since I am not an expert at trannys, but the car drives great with it!

Sometimes mine bangs gears but most of the time its stupid soft even with tuning. I talked to Dave at TEP and he said that the second gear clutch pack needs a extra clutch in order to get some neck snapping shifts. He also does a few other tricks here and there.
Downshifts are killer though... I could chirp the tires when punching it going 35mph in high gear. My trans fluid at 30k was much worse looking and I'm glade, I changed it when I did! This shift kit is a great upgrade to add while doing a filter and fluid change.

I have the same kit that was installed at the same time as the TEP valve body, and on the same settings as yours. The difference is very clear, though I noticed a much quicker 2-3 shift, as I had the clearance reduced in my 2-3 clutch pack.
The reason the shifts aren't aggressive is because the loose converter in our cars tends to deaden the "jolt" that you'd otherwise get with a normal converter.
If I had to do it again, I would set it to the race setting, since I won't be increasing the line pressure anytime soon.

You really should. The cars should have came like this. It is very easy, and would make a good afternoon project once it gets warmer out.

Yes. It came with an instruction sheet that is illustrated. Only the first page is relevant. There is a lot of non-shift kit related things in there, I guess because the maker assumes shop personnel will be reading it. There is a picture on the springs sitting on the instruction sheet in my first post. It seem intimidating but it you have a socket set and ratchet, it is not very hard. Messy maybe, but not hard.
