Default Glasspacks

Has anyone welded up glasspacks in place of the stock mufflers and left the rest of the exhaust system stock?

I currently have Summit Racing race mufflers on and I was considering going to something louder. I just wanted to know/hear about others opinions and/or hear what it might sound like.

Thanks!

P.S. I do love how my car sounds, but it just seems a little tame.

I do, with the exception of having stored my resonator in the local landfill. Dynomax Ultra-flows. They are throaty, but not at all loud inside the car, even at full chat. From the way it turns heads under load, I believe it snarls pretty good from outside.

Those are pretty nice, at least from the 5.3L truck videos I found on YouTube, but damn are they pricey. If I did this I'd also be leaving the resonator on.

My car was quieter with the factory cat and straight pipes, than it is now with a spintech pro street muffler only. I'd hack off the resonator and see how I liked it before changing mufflers.

I've heard some videos and hacking the resonator has made the car sound quite raspy. I'm looking to avoid that as much as possible. I'd also like to keep interior drone to a minimal.

Yeah, mine would be more tame than that though. I'd keep the resonator and just swap the mufflers to the more free flowing glasspacks. Hm... I need to think this over.

Plus I'd want interior drone to be as minimal as possible, along with the DOD sound to not be a drastic. Also looking for little to no rasp if possible.

I'm on the opposite end - my car has to have 50k on the MF's, getting too loud IMO w/o the rez. I'm thinking about putting the rez back on, so I'd do what the boys are saying and take the rez off and straight pipe it first.

Car will sound like any LS series motor, and I've never noticed any drone or whirring w/ the MF system. I think you will be happy with the results. Mine shakes the house / garage when its running.

I wouldn't go with glasspacks if you're looking to keep interior resonance/drone down to a minimum.

I have !Res, a hogan catless dp, and super 44s and its obnoxiously loud. Lots of rattles, shakes, drone.

...but I get attention and who doesn't like that

That's what I have now. Thanks for the advice guys. I still have to give it some thought.

just put a flowmaster super 44 muffler inplace of the resonator and put 2.25 or 2.5 inch piping all the way back..it should sound pretty good

Or don't.

Flowmasters rob power and gas mileage. No offense, but I've got headers and a spintech, arguably one of the best mufflers on the LSx platform, and the SS still sounds like a Gen 1 Vortec in a 1500 at anything under 75% throttle.

Well then. lol

I know it's going to sound truckish based on the engine at hand, just want something that sounds good and is a bit louder than my current setup. And won't sound like crap when DOD kicks in.

I hate our sound. my friends refer to my car as the boat. its long, white, idles like "blub blub blub blub" and it doesn't turn very well in parking lots.

I think my car sounds like a truck too.

Well, I'm about to change my exhaust *again*. I've spent more money expiramenting with the exhaust than on any other part of the car. I keep wondering if I'd be better off having a set of LTs made...

...LTs sound interesting. might as well do a RWD swap while you're at it.

Why? Because a set of headers is going to be comparable in cost to a major project like that?
