Default ls4 block capabilitys

im curious what can the ls4 block handle. i have a chance to get a ls4 motor out of a wrecked grand prix for 800 and i want to fully forge it and use the turbo set up and run around 20lbs of boost. also what will the front sub frame handle and the axles? i know i will have to get a built trans. there is just something about making a front wheel drive 4 door car dip into the low 10 high 9 area that intrigues me. a 4 door family car that can eat a zo6. hmmmm

talk to rossko i think he is running about 12 psi on a turbo plus 100 shot on e85

The LS4 with a forged bottom end, which you will have to have custom pistons made, will reliably make 800 crank horse.

But there is no 4T65E HD that will hold that type of power. So far we have one holding 650 just fine. With one more mod we feel we will move that up to 750 crank horse.

Thats the current limitation.

Is somebody now making a piston set for this motor?

I've looked all over.

The only thing i found was Ross piston will make a custom set to your specs.

This is what Mark had to do...

Please share if you found an off the shelf set.

Any pistons made for a 5.3L should work fine.

Dude wants to run 20 PSI. He won't be able to do that the LS4's 10:1 compression, so a low compression piston is a must.

Yeah, 3.78" bored sleeve honed out would be what, 3.79" or 3.8"? I'm pretty sure there are aftermarket pistons for small bore LS motors. Don't hold me to it but I'm 99% sure someone makes them.

I've called Carrilo, Diamond, Ross etc....

None of them make a piston for our cars. Some of them had never even heard of an LS4.

Thats the bad news. The good news is Ross will make you a custom set for about 200 bucks more than a standard set. Not so bad.

Shouldn't make a difference. Just use ls4 length connecting rods.

I know of a big block Ford Pinto that can eat a Z06, but what's the point?

This setup seems to hold together pretty good with 900 hp. Maybe because of the lighter vehicle weight and less torque possibly?
