Default I wish I had more hands..........

so I could give my gas mileage 4 thumbs down!

Just made a ~400 mile trip in the GXP and managed a whopping 22.4mpg!!! And this is with me babying the car at all times, no spirited romps and maybe topping out at 72mph. Mods are FWI, DT headers and a tune, not sure if my tuner disabled dod or not, but 22mpg on a super-light foot? I was also keeping a close eye on the tranny temps as well, maxing at 208 degrees and running a steady 199, time for a cooler I guess.

I know if I would've driven the car like I wanted, I probably would've done well to see 18mpg, if that. And, the tranny would've been hotter than a hooker's crotch on saturday night. Now, dont get me wrong, I love the LS4. We had plenty of room (me, my wife, and our 3yr old), plenty of trunk space after being loaded with 7 days worth of clothes and junk, and the car was much more enjoyable than our Ford Explorer would've been. I just wish i could've seen 25mpg. Is that really asking too much out of this car?? Sorry for the rant, just wanted to vent some frustration on my less than fabulous gas mileage. Anyone else feeling my pain?

Joe.

I drove to Florida in April, 1500ish miles there and back. With cruise around 74-78mph the entire trip, I averaged 27mpg - roundtrip. We did 99% highway driving.

I average 19mpg overall, and when drive to my brothers house in Dallas, usually average 23mpg roundtrip (400 miles) with some city driving.

We get high 20's regularly on long trips, running about 65-68 MPH.

Is your 22.4 MPG from the DIC or are you actually doing the math?

wanna trade mpg numbers? lol

did you make sure your tires were aired up right?
your best mpg you will get is below 60mph (hard to do lol) because of wind resistance greatly increasing over 55mph unless the wind is at your back

GXP tunes may be different. I also got similar low gas mileage when I drove to D.C. in July.

The Overkill tune enables DoD a lot longer and at higher speeds. Good luck getting in touch with the guy, lol.

The mpg reading was straight off the DIC, I'll do my own math on the trip home and see if it's any different. Phil still wanted to play around with the tune anyhow, so when I get a chance I'll run it back over to him.

Glad someone appreciated the Rick James reference, lol.

Dropped to 19.4 lifetime avg last night.

There are a few cars on this forum that do well, most do not, like was mentioned it's the aero. These cars do their best below 65.

Thats to bad about your mileage. I just got 46.3 MPG on my last tank and 647 miles. Gotta love the TDI!

The biggest factor in your MPG, that hasn't been mentioned, is your tire pressure. If you are going on a long highway drive, it is okay to put another 4-5 psi in your tires. It helps alot. I run my tires at 31 psi around town, but when I go on a trip, I bump it up to 35 psi and I have not seen less than 24 mpg on highway trips.

Use the cruise control alot, it helps. Also, probably obvious but worth mentioning, 1) ensure your air filter is clean and 2) Be sure to run fuel injector cleaner periodically.

Hope this helps.

How does that compare to stock GXP mileage?
I get about 27-28mpg on the highway cruising around 70mph in my 2000 TA, but it does have a 6-speed and that low overdrive really helps.

I've been thinking about a GXP for a daily driver, but I'd hate to think it's going to get that much worse mileage than my Trans Am.

The DIC is pretty worthless for MPG, especially after tuning.

My Impala was always off by 1-1.5 MPGs before I got tuned and is even worse now.

Do the math for a few tanks and see what you are really getting.
