Exclamation Power Steering Recall?

I was driving my car to the bank on friday and i heard this noise from inside my car. Everytime i would drive or hit the accelerator i heard this winding noise. So sunday coming from football practice, the check engine light was on and im wondering why? Maybe the noise coming from the engine bay. So this morning i go to my mechanic and he tells me its the power steering pump. Isnt it a recall on these cars that said something about the power steering or something? If so, my car is a 06 and is out of warranty so will i be covered or will i have to fork out 300 bucks for it to be done?

The recall is for a high-pressure power steering line that can rupture in low temperatures.

It's got nothing to do with the pump.

Now, if you have the burst line that had not been fixed under recall, then it should be covered under the recall. If it really is the pump, then it will be on your dime.

Since you haven't mentioned a bunch of leaking PS fluid, I would venture to say that it's the pump.

I second this opinion and BTW the recall will not be honered if you car is not (or was not) ever registerd in a state were temps. fall below 32 degrees F

Actually, GM changed this policy. I live in SoCal and my Impala become eligible for the recall when the tranny was being done. This was a phased a deal where the cold weather states got addressed first.

correct, what Mel said ^ ^ ^

when this recall/tsb first came out years ago, yes, it was only for cold-climate vehicles... but they had changed that a while back, and it is for ALL of them now...

Mine as well. The dealer actually called me after sending the letter and told me to bring it in. And I live in a "warm" climate.

So if this is true, then why haven't I received a recall notice?

edit: Nevermind. There are no recalls listed for 2008's.

i never got a warranty on my car. well if you call a 1000 mile 1 month a warranty? the only thing the dealer i got it from covered was the tranny only cause it died a week after i got it and that was a huge hassle for them to cover that. i fought them for a month and a half to get that fixed

doesn't matter if you have a warranty or not, man... that is a manufacturers safety recall... My warranty has long expired, and mine is getting done at no cost to me...

it says it right on the recall notice, that if you've already paid to have it done, you can submit a copy of your bill to them and they will reimburse you...

the recall is only good until Feb. 2011 though.. so you better get crackin'... after that, they won't reimburse you... and if anyone waits until after that to get it done, it will cost them out of their own pocket...
