Default GXP vs G8 GT

I've seen a few GXP owners who have upgraded to the G8 GT. I'd like to get some impressions of how the GXP compares. Power, handling, fuel economy, comfort, etc.

I really like the G8, but they're also about $10,000 more than a comparable GXP, and I do like the styling of them both. On paper the G8 has more power, but the GXP should get better mileage.

So, do they even compare or is the G8 in a whole other league?

Basically the same fuel eco, stock for stock they're close in performance, but G8 is easier modded, larger, and RWD. It takes a special person to drive an LS4.

A comfortable daily driver for someone who enjoys driving.
I want something with some power, and doesn't handle like a pig.
I doubt it will ever see a drag strip.

I'm seriously thinking about a GXP because the G8 is a bit out of my budget right now, but I'd like to get an idea how much more car I'd get for my money with the G8. RWD is a big selling point to me, but I also wanted to get impressions from people who've had both.

honestly i love the gp gxp only down side as JP said it does take a special person to drive the ls4 gxp. I would try and drive both to figure out what one you like better. I dont know about the prices on the g8 here but back in pa they were still about $28k and for me at $28k there would be a few different cars i would get before the g8 but that is me personally. Dont get me wrong the g8 is nice and fast.

Well I traded in my GP GXP for a G8 GT...my GXP was modded with headers, magnaflow cat-back, K&N Intake, TBS and High-flow cat.

G8 GT was stock and it beats the GXP with the mods I done to her, I still love my old GXP and still has great power.

stock a GXP should be running in the high 13's, with a tune and VERY few mods 13.5 or so isn't out of the question considering stock gxp's have run 13.6-13.8 in the quarter.

Seems close (yes slower) but close to stock G8's. Fuel economy I don't think is the same, but that's just IMO. When I was stock I could get 28-29 mpg's at around 72-73 mph. Now with a tune I'm getting 31 with the same mph, which is incredibly impressive I think for 300+ hp V8 (this is on the hwy, city mileage sucks no matter how you spin either car)

It was just stock tune with the mods It's just the feel of the G8 being faster.

I really thought about moving to the G8 couple of years ago, but decided against it since it was only imported for two years.

I was debating between the g8 before I bought the gxp. It was about 10 grand outta my range, so I went with the gxp.

I liked the hud in my 99 gtp, so that was nice to have back again with this car.

I'm happy with the gxp. Like others have said, depends if you want fwd or rwd.

Both nice cars.

the interior of the G8 is worth the money ALONE.. Not to mention the other (many) positives.. The GP is a great car if you can grab one around 10-12k, but you can't touch a G8 right now for less then $20k, and that will be beat on.. The G8 is SOUT.. the FWD GP is not. The car will stay tighter alot longer than the FWD setup in the GP if you live in a shitty area.. good luck

My brother owns a 09 G8 GT, it's pretty much nicer than the Impala in every aspect, but he also paid a lot more.

If your looking for a great "touring" car..get the GXP..its going to out perform a lot of cars on the street..it will get you where you want to go with a lot of comfort!

The only downside is the RWD FWD..some will say these have a lot of issues..the trans is a weak point..but again its how you drive the car..

good luck I say go with the GXP then if you want to trade up..the G8's will be around the price in a few years..
