You got a new one? I got a 'factory rebuilt' one, it's been good, we'll see if it makes it through this drag and AutoX season.

Hey, I just discovered that I still have factory powertrain warranty left(til Mar. 22). I thought I was pretty much screwed unless there was a recall.

Good Luck... Got it through GM Performance, it could be remanned. I've had FAR fewer problems with the Fiero- Our cars might be cursed?

no, he didn't...

there are no "brand new" trannies..

they are GM SERTA remanufactured trannies with a 3yr / 100k mile warranty...

I have one in mine too...

Yup..You don't get "new" unless you buy "new".

But new or SERTA, the problems will most likely come back.

That's what I was thinking, no new ones. That's why I asked.

So I need an opinion. 06MonteSS says the SERTA comes with a 3yr/100k warranty. When GM replaces mine, should I go ahead and do the upgrades from TEP that LS1Racing suggested or should I wait. If I do the mods that would void the warranty. But with the luck we have with these cars, while i am riding around on the warranty, the trans. will probably start to die and then once the warranty runs out it would **** the bed. What would you do? (if the mods fix the problem, I shouldn't have anything to worry about.)

I went the serta route and I'm having the same problems with this tranny along with an appointment on Monday. No tranny mods- Likely this one will need to be replaced. It does come with a 3YR100K warranty but needs to be installed by an ASE certified mechanic (or the dealer, which I found more expensive) cost was an even 3 grand- Here's a shortened copy of the warranty- Good luck!

Here are your choices:

Yes, the TEP upgrades will void the warranty, however, it's unlikely that you'll have anymore problems once you've done them.

By leaving the trans alone, your SERTA warranty will be in effect, but you're extremely likely to continue having problems.

GM put a SERTA trans in my Impala last October, and I did the TEP upgrades and shift kit about a month later. I've put about 5000 miles on it since I did that, and haven't looked back.

Remember, a SERTA trans doesn't address the root causes of our failures. It's just a rebuilt trans with all of the same flaws as the original.

Since you have a newer trans that may not yet be damaged, now would be the time to do the TEP upgrades, before you start finding material in the pan.

Here`s a thought...
You do not have to have it repaired at a GM dealership! To have GM pay for it...
Maybe someone should call the warrenty claims department and find out what they will cover as far as reinbursement. After all not every place you break down is near a dealer.

Well, I got a new one, just to be one the safe side, and also to improve drivability. I went with a lower stall converter, which really made the car feel more lively in the city and improved mileage slightly.

The converter I got from TEP was $199+core. Cheap insurance, if you want to make sure the trans didn't start to wreck the stock TCC.

Kind of wish I would have realized that before. I already filed a claim with GM and made a appointment with the dealer. If I try that now, it might look like I'm trying to pull something.
