Whatever you do, DO NOT get a GM remanufactured transmission. Contact Dave @ TEP and see what you can do to make the one you've got stronger.
Even if you don't buy from him, he can advise on what you can do to prevent this from happening again without breaking the bank.

Also, I don't believe the car has the stock trans, even though I have no paperwork, I believe it is a reman. My gm certified uncle said he thinks that because most remans are painted to look brand new, so when I got the car, it looked brand new where as the rest of the vehicle didnt. But we can't be sure. I highly doubt the car got 106k out of the stock trans.

It's important to deal with a trans shop that knows how to improve these trannies. Many reputable shops might rebuild our 4T65-HDs perfectly and to factory specs, but since the design and engineering are compromised, a stock rebuild is still a ticking time-bomb.
I recommend you contact a specialist in our trannies like Dave @ Triple Edge Peformance, or one of the shops mentioned above. If anything, you can learn what parts to get and what work needs to be done by your local shop so that you get a reliable rebuild.
