Default GXP Owners! What is you EQ Set at?

I assume all GXP's have the monsoon sound system however I have no been too impressed by the bass quality of the system. Is this just me?

I have my speakers set at

-1 bass
-2 Mid
+2 Treble

That is where I feel the sound does not get .....sketchy. As it sounds like the rear speakers are being pushed to there maximum, If I turn the bass up a few notches It sounds like the speakers are trying way too hard.

I read about some GXP owners having the bass on +6 but, for me that would sound terrible

I listen to mostly XM radio and listen to a mix of Rap and Some Rock and Country.

Stock NAV and Monsoon:

FM:

+4 Treble
+3 Mid
-4 Bass (I think; something really low)

XM:

+4 Treble
+3 Mid
+2 Bass

The bass will never be great. I ran it on EQ preset 2 for a while. Then I added one 12" JL W3 sub with a 1800watt amp to the factory system and it is fantastic now. A sub is your best remedy.

I have a 12" Rockford Fosgate P3 Punch Sub and a Alpine Amp (? Wattage). I was just hoping it didn't have to come down to that. I just bought a optima Red Top, I do not listen to my radio with the car off. Hopefully the red top will hold up.

I ripped out the entire system within 4 days of owning the car. Honestly I think it's one of the worst I've ever heard, and it's honestly only this car specific.

My g/f owns a G6 gtp with a monsoon system, and it sounds AMAZING compared to what was in the GXP.

Currently I'm running a pioneer touch-screen double din headunit, and Alpine Type R components in the front, 6X9's in the back, and a 10" punch P1 RF sub in the trunk. Everything hooked up to a 900 watt amp, and it's cleaaaaaaaan.

When I said sounds amazing, I meant in reference to the grand prix system. Just my opinion, but I think all the stock pontiac systems sound like crap. The only one I ever "kinda" liked was the 8-speaker system that had the 10 band equalizer from the 97-98 gtp's before they went to "bose" labeled speakers.

Then again for every car I've owned I ripped out the system. Not so much for bass, but because the high's are crisp, and the mid's are very muddy.

My wife has the same car. The stereo in that thing made me so mad that I went and ripped all the factory bullsh*t out of the car and got Alpine Type R 6 1/2s for the doors and 6x9's for the rear and a 500 watt Alpine amp.

i think its kinda funny everyones girl has a g6 gtp haha
"little gxp" lol,
my girls system isnt horrible but it does suck
one of the back speakers makes a noise like a rattling type of nose after base hits.

anyone know what that could be? previous owners had a system in the trunk but its out now.. also are your guy's girl's g6 extremely loud? mine has a 2006 gtp coupe and its very abnoxious for a stock system, i checked it out and it is for sure stock but not a very restrictive system though

XM is a whole different beast, lol.

I would never run my bass at +2 while listening to FM or CDs.

To make things clear, I haven't had a base radio since my '04 GT2, but I'm going to assume that "+2" et al. are listed on the screen. On the stock NAV, there are just three notches and intermediate spaces between them. I assume "0" as being the center point.

I've never heard a good AC delco head unit. Once I put a Pioneer head unit in, it sounds much better on the stock Monsoon speakers.

+4 Bass
+2 Mid
+6 Treble

Listen to strictly European metal, hardly any awful American music.

Gonna look into putting 10s where the 6x9s are, gonna take a little fabbing but I don't mind cutting the car up.

Sorry to post in an older post. I just purchased an 08 GP GXP.

I love the power and exhaust note. Regarding the monsoon touchscreen with navigation stereo system, does anyone have trouble resetting their clock? I changed my battery yesterday and now where the time is usually indicated on the top right of the screen is now blank. I've tried all the settings to set the time but it doesn't work. Is there something I'm not doing right?

Anyone put Kappas and still used Monsoon?
I've been thinking of this but I want to make sure the system is still well rounded (I actually don't mind the Monsoon system).
