Looking at buying a GP GXP
So, I've been thinking about selling my '05 Colorado and buying a car that gets better gas mileage. My first choice was a Cobalt SS but then I found the GP GXP and saw that it got just as good of gas mileage on the highway as the cobalts, which most of my driving is.
So, what can you all tell me about the pros and cons of these cars? How are they in snowy conditions?
Thanks in advance guys!

I just sold my Cobalt SS Supercharged and bought a GP GXP. The gas mileage is much better on the cobalt, but I love it the GXP. I really enjoy the low end power as compared to the Cobalt.

There wouldn't be any modification done to the car other than maybe a muffler delete/swap. It wouldn't get driven hard either, it'd be a DD. Do the trans still go out under normal driving conditions, or under abuse and mods? The SS is the car for going fast in. Lol.

I hated driving mine in snow - I only have all season tires for it, and they just don't have enough grip to push through 5" of snow. I parked it this winter.
Nice comfortable highway cruiser though.

Can't be much worse than my Colorado. It had 600lbs over the axle and it still spun in an inch of snow...that's one of the reasons I want to get rid of it. Plus it's a 5 cylinder and is only averaging 18 right now...that's mostly highway.

I had no problems driving mine through snow. I have 52k on the clock just had transmission serviced and it is running perfect. I do not take it easy on the car at all and it barely had any clutch material on the magnet.

i have a cobalt ss turbo....incredible car for the money, responds to mods great, and gets awesome gas mileage. it also handles very good for a stock car

Cons: Burns gasoline in the city like an F-16 on afterburners. Trans is junk. High-stall converter makes for a sloppy drive in stop-and-go traffic.
My advice: If you buy one, better put aside about $1700 + labor for an upgraded transmission, as you have a one-in-three chance of experiencing a failure before 100k miles.

If you want superb mileage get a NA v6. I had a 04 got 32 on the highway. Best i got out of my SCV6 was 27mpg. Typically more like 24 or 25. I got around 23 or 24 driving back and forth to indy this past week.

I want something that gets pretty decent mileage, like mid 20's. Everything that gets better pretty much looks like crap to me. Lol. I want something that looks sporty/nice and gets around mid to high 20's on the highway. Plus the sound of the V8 in the GXP is nice. I thought about a Z28 but don't want to have to deal with a RWD 300hp car in N. Indiana.
Anyone have any other suggestions on sporty fuel efficient (25+ mpg highway) cars out there? I cant think of any besides the Cobalt SS and GXP that are $13K or less...

ok to the OP, we see no correlation with "taking it easy" making the trans last longer, but actually have seen that the people that do try to take it easy have more trans issues. Another thing to consider is with DoD active seems to consume alot of oil, and with my experience seems to give the tranny a harder time i.e. converter locking and unlocking, higher trans temps. Another thing to consider is a set of snow tires, for sure worth it in the snow. The GXP's also are known for eating thru front tires in about a year or so, so beware of that, but if you get the camber "kit" which is a few bolts that allow for more adjustment during alignment seem to help. I really do like this car a lot, just eats gas in the city. I have full magnaflow 2.5" exhaust with a full HPtune with DoD disabled and i still get 24-26 on the highway. Just did a trip to detroit (318 mi roundtrip) with alot of traffic jams and city with about 50% highway and i averaged 21 mpg's on 93 octane. The only problem i have had with this car is the waterpump took a **** on me and these Acdelco batteries like to just die unexpectidly. Try to get one with a warranty hope this helps!!

Go with the cobalt ss turbo. It is much faster from factory and handles much better. Gas mileage will be better in the city. Also if you want to mod it, it will actually do well.
The grand prix is a better highway cruiser. cause its smoother than the cobalt though.
Plus you wont have tranny problems.
