Technically, yes, but then it's warranty fraud.

Every Ls4 tranny isnt going to go out. Alot of people have more than 1 mod and these cars were not made for mods obviously with the number of tranny failures. Make smart mods and you"ll be alright except if its a lemon.

Plenty have gone out from normal/easy driving with no mods. It's just a bad mate for our engine.

True, not every LS4 is going to have a trans failure, but the best guess we have indicates an approximate failure rate of 33% by 70,000 miles.

If you read through the failure thread (and others), there's not much to prove your assertion that mods cause failures. The reality is that, while the trans is very close to max torque capacity, the vast majority of failures ARE NOT broken input shafts or burnt clutches due to too much power. They're caused by poor design and engineering decisions in the valve body by GM.

And BTW- What's a "smart mod?"

So true, JP. When I did the research for the Trans Failure thread, I found MANY that were unmodded, adult-driven cars.

~40,500 miles right now. No transmission issues. If it goes bad, I hope it goes bad while my extended warranty is still in effect.

Make sure to check the tranny fluid as the owners manual suggests (level surface, 180+ degrees, etc.) and make sure it's at the proper level. Mine was a bit low and since there's no leak, it was kind of odd for it to be a few ounces low. Should help the longevity if you have the proper amount in the system.

1st one went out at 52k-ish. Only had a KN CAI(really only had it on for about a week), but I had the stupid habit of shifting my car up and down ALOT. I'm convinced that shifting an auto that much is what caused my trans failure!!

I've got 44k-ish on my new one(replaced not re-built) and don't have any issues, and now I have headers, 1.8's, cutout, CAI.

Just lost mine this week. 30,900 miles. Only Mods are a KN CIA and the 91 octane Trinity program. Started getting a studder shift a couple days earlier and just before it went I got a "shift module" code. Not upset that it went. Was about to add headers and a DP. better for the warranty guy to see it stock

Dave at TEP recommends dropping the pan and changing the filter. No flush! When you drop the pan only the fluid that comes out natrually should come out which is about 50% this way it does not shock the system of the tranny. When you refill it, it will have 50% old fluid and 50% new. He informed me that if you go past fluid change intervals in the 24-30K mile range and a pan drop to service the fluid and filter is the safest way and he does not recommend changing it at all. I just have my tranny rebuilt by him about 4,000 miles ago and it was a huge difference. I had the gears changed to 3.29 and a hardened input shaft. I have been loving it.

Default Few questions..

Hey guys i have a few questions.. I bought out 5 monthan 06 monte carlo ss about 5 months ago i had original flowmaster 40's put on and threw a k&n filter in it. i have been to the track twice with it and my best time was on a really muggy day was a 12.28. im spinning through first and when i shift into second its like the car wont let it shift that high of rpm so it jumps the car like makes it nose dive and make the tach go down for it to shift then it takes off some more. it has 46k miles on it i bought it with 38 should i try changing the fluid and filter? i bought an aftermarket b2b warranty and their really good about replacing things so far.. helps my uncles the service manager for the chevy dealer too....
