ok so my transmission is slipping between 1st and second.. is there any fix to this and if so who do i need to contact? plz and thank you

it got bad after I installed the diablo sport predator the car has 79K on it any help is better than what i have now

He will set you up with a transmission that will LAST, and for less than the cost of a factory rebuilt unit.

 

i would reccomend this, or if you arent doing any heavy modding and you have the 100 powertrain warranty i would go that route then put a trans cooler and shift kit in.

 

Well, if you are under warranty, get the SERTA trans from GM and call Dave @ TEP to get his his updated valve body and seal kit.

Do this whether you're modding or not, since bolt-ons are not the root cause of our trans failures.

 

Stupid question.. But have you checked your transmissons fluid level? If its full, what color is the fluid?

 

Make sure to check your transmission fluid according to the instructions in the owner's manual and make sure it's at operating temperature which is about 190 to 200 degrees.

 

I guess I jumped the gun...With all of the reported problems, I just kind of assumed that slip=death.

My bad...Always important to check the basics first!

okay i check the fluid and it was at max but looked dark as heck... almost black... is that the reason for the slippage?

where do i get that? an the dealer said if it is already slipping that changing my trans fluid would only expedite the problem??

 

If all the fluid levels are correct then try adding some Lucas trans. fix. This will temporarily fix the problem until you can get it rebuilt.

By the way, I just looked it up for you in the owner's manual. It says to change the transmission AKA "automatic transaxle" fluid and filter every 50,000 miles if you drive it aggressively (which probably means almost every single GXP owner) or 100,000 miles if normally. Glad I looked it up. I'm at 40k. Says DEXRON VI as well, takes 7.4 quarts (7.0 liters) of fluid. Seems like a lot of fluid! Our cars only need 6 quarts of oil (5.7 liters).

I checked the '02 Camaro SS's owners manual and it says to change the fluid every 15k miles (!!!!) if it's an automatic and driven aggressively. If not aggressively, then every 50k. It goes on to say that the fluid never needs to be changed in a Camaro with manual transmission. Weird. Had our's changed at like 17k miles last year. Says the automatic transmission takes a massive 10.8 quarts (10.2 liters) and the manual transmission takes 4 quarts (3.8 liters).
