Where do I find the serpentine belt tool for the ls 4? I can't get my alternator bracket off to cut it Down without it? After Much anger I got pissed off and cut the belt trying to get it back on after a failed attempt to get it back on, can you take off the back valve cover with out removing the bracket btw?

You can take the back valve cover off without removing the alternator. You can change valve springs, rockers and pushrods in the rear without removing the alternator. A tool company called KD tools makes the special serpentine belt tool. I forgot the part number, but it makes things easier. But you cant see where it goes into the tensioner. So its still a pain.

A friend and I did the belt without the tool.
One of us went under the car with a pry bar, to depress tension from that lower spring tensioner, while the other stayed at the top with belt in hand. With the lower depressed, and me stretching the belt that little extra bit it went on just fine.

I just use a 1" wrench that is about 24" long. I spray the wrench down with WD40 and and lift the belt off of the PS pump pulley with a twisting motion. I install the belt the same way. Takes about 2 mins max.

I'll post a vid later this week.

I got the belt on and off by kneeling on top of the intake and pulling as hard as I could up and slid it off. Same to get it back on. Helps to drink couple beers and get mad at it first! Lol

Yea 3 guys could not get it back on and my buddy did the same thing on his Gxp and didnt have that. Much of a problem. Still need to get the tool so I can get the tensioner out of the way so I can get the bottom bolt out of the bracket.

And.... why are you removing the bracket again?

You don't need the tool. Slip the belt on, and use a flat edge-less wrench/bar with lube, and lift the belt (tool under the belt, in-between the PS pulley and idler pulley) up and over the PS pulley. Try to create a sliding motion.

wow i am a flippin idiot just had the realization that if i took the bottom bolt off before i took the belt off i could of got the bracket out ( tensioner would of been of been down farther out of the path of the bolt) and i could of been running around a lot happier instead of pissed off at the car

The first time I removed my alt bracket I broke the tensioner. 165.00 lesson!
