Took my impala in too. The dealer says they should have the parts in this week. I am quoting the service technicain but he said that if my extended warranty doesn't cover it that he will get it covered through GM. We'll see

That is disappointing that it takes that much work to drop the oil pan.

Took mine in Monday morning and got it back yesterday.

They did a complete oil change and changed out the gasket.

Thanks for this El Cid as no one at the dealership contacted me back about this update.

Since I do a lot of highway driving on the weekend, I'll know for sure if this works or not in a month or so.

I got her back and it turns out my front lower engine mount was found separated when they were doing the oil pan gasket. They did the cylinder cleaning, gasket, oil change, the mount, transmission lines, and after some haggling 8 new spark plugs. Before I used to have a rough idle and the DOD would make a weird noise, but now shes running smooth and quiet. Im going to put the tune back on but leave the DOD on and see if she will burn any oil. In the report they sent to GM they said my car was 3.6 qts low after 3,600 miles so I should be able to notice it if it does burn any.

Is there any harm with the Dealer putting their non synthetic probably used oil in my car when I always use Mobil 1 synthetic when I do my oil changes?

I'm pretty sure they put in Mobil 1 oil.

I asked what they use and he said the standard oil they use at the factory. The shitty thing is I just changed my oil less then 1000 miles ago, and 7 qts of Mobil one is not cheap

The 5 qt jugs at walmart are about the cheapest I have found. Like $25-30.

There are no known negative effects from switching from synthetic to conventional as far as I have ever read. (other than you are running conventional for a few thousand miles) You should be fine to switch back on your next change.

Do you think GM would cover this if the car is out of warranty? My Dad took his '08 Impala SS to the dealership and complained about this issue about a year ago when it had about 70k-80k on the clock and they told him the oil consumption was normal...

Do you think since he has something on record they would acknowledge the issue and cover the cost or screw him over like they do time after time.

The gasket is like $34 bucks not really out a lot if you have to DIY. I'll probably do it here shortly even though my oil consumption test came back within tolerance.

I'd give GM a call and explain yourself considering that you have the issue logged before the fix existed.

Wow my Dad had them look at the Power steering pump too and they said it was alright, but every few months it's dry. We were planning on putting a new pump on it soon.

I love GM, but hate them all at the same time. It's kinda awesome.

Has anyone ever installed catch cans in their LS4 powered vehicles?

Would this help some of the problem at all?
