Raced a GTO
Had a GTO for dinner friday night on the way to "The Pool" at Harrah's Casino in Atlantic City. I was leaving out of WaWa to get a quick snack so i can have something in my stomach to soak up those drinks in A.C. So as im getting in the car i hear someone in the far side of the WaWa say, "There's a Charger!" I just shrugged it off and started to leave the parking lot. My sister then says "That car is trying to race you" so i look and see a red GTO (couldnt tell if it was a 6.0 or a 5.7 because it was debaged). He rolled his window down and said "Let's go!". I looked at my sister and she said "bust his @$$". So he honked 3 times and we took off from about 35 mph and i beat him by 1/2 a car length. He then did that infamous "ricer fly by" after the race was over. Thats the first time i ever went over 120 mph in this car and it wanted to go even more. I was impressed being as though we both had a passenger and his was a manual. I only have intake and straight pipe exhaust. I missed you guys so i decided to drop in and see whats up..

I've driven both the 5.7 and 6.0 GTO's and all years of Charger R/T's and I'll put this on the driver, the GTO in any form is faster on paper than any nearly stock 5.7l Chargers, especially the 06-08 years without VVT.
Good kill!

I raced a 6.0 the other day driving home from work. He deff had an exhaust because it sounded oh so sexy but it needed a driver mod. We did a 3 honk from a 40 roll (the worst speed for our ls4s) and i could tell from the sound that he was in too high of a gear i pulled on him all the way till 100ish when he slowly started creeping up but i let off. He pulled up next to me and said "I cant believe how fast your car is i knew i should have switched into a lower gear"

Thanks guys! To the OP the GTO was manual. I was completely surprised that I did win because those things are down right nasty. I was looking at a 06 metallic blue GTO before the R/T but the dealer wouldn't come down on the price. But hey, I'll take the win even if it was the driver's fault

any GTO is faster than a 5.7 hemi powered car, in stock form, theres a huge weight difference even between a GTO and a challanger let alone the bigger charger, and the LS1 makes similar power to a 5.7 Hemi up to '09 with the vvt and a new intake and bumped up to 390hp
Dude in the GTO probably went into WOT in the 3rd and should have dropped 2nd, or he short shifted under the pressure of loosing to a full size sedan
easiest way to tell the difference between an early GTO and the 05+ is the exhaust, LS1 cars had dual tips on the driver's side, LS2 cars had a tip on either side
I attempted to race an LS2 Goat last week from about 65mph I got a jump on him, and he pulled away from me with ease, I got up to about 130 and backed off, he just kept on flyin...but I've killed a few 300c's and Charger R/T's on the street and track
Nice Kill for sure, driver's skill prevails every time

This on was a bright red one with aftermarket lights, dual exhaust and a regular hood. Ivevseen quite a few with just one exhaust pipe and 2 exhaust tips. None the less its a unique looking car. I should have lost whether it was a ls1 or a ls2 goat. So I'll chalk it up to the driver either didn't know what he was doing or he took it lightly, but I'll take it. Next mods I will look into is some long tube headers, a tuner, and maybe a cam.
