Default New GXP Owner/ Pics

Well after looking hard, I finally found a good deal on a GXP that was somewhat close to me. Picked up a 07 with 127k miles. It is CLEAN. Almost perfect. I bought it from the 2nd owner and he had it since 55k miles. Guy drove 100 miles round trip everyday to work so it racked up some miles but all highway. It is perfect inside and out and was garage kept and never smoked in. It has had some work done with is probably good IMO. The water pump and drive belt was just replaced at 110k miles, and it had a converter put in it at 90k miles. I am very aware of the problems from the transmissions.

So my question is, the fluid has not been changed since the converter went out at 90k miles. So it has almost 40k miles on that fluid. Its not burnt up, but has some discoloration to it also. Not bright red more like dark pink, and has some what of a small burnt smell but not bad. So should I flush it or not? I putting a tranny cooler on it in the next few days and also getting a tune. I want to have the flush done before I put the cooler on if yall think I should?? Or just drop the pan and change a portion of the fluid?

Update: Got some goodies in the mail today..

Tranny cooler is going on tomorrow as well as plugs and wires.
Today I did a filter swap....

I also had the exhaust put on today. Got some SLP mufflers and TIPS off a 02 SS Camaro with 12k miles. I know it wont be much for performance but sounds nice.

Also got a tuned lined up for friday.

How hard is this to do? All the bolts for the pan pretty easy to get too? How much fluid will I loose just with the pan?

Easy to do, just messy. I don't recall how many quarts, it was a lot more than I thought it'd be. 5-7ish?

Yes you can reuse it, just keep an eye out for leaks. You should probably change it again in a couple hundred miles. So if it was leaking or looked questionable, that would be the time for a new gasket.

Change the fluid again in a couple of 100 miles? I think I might put a drain plug in it with magnet if so.

What about a after market cooler? I will thake the top line out of the factory cooler, cut it and go into the bottom of the new one and then out the top back into the line I cut right?

The flow through the cooler should be in the top and out the bottom. Heat rises so you want to colder liquid at the bottom of the cooler to go back to the trans. And correct me if I'm wrong here guys, but I'm pretty sure you want the cooler to be after the stock cooler. Otherwise when you flow back into the stock cooler the oil will heat back up from being surrounded by the engine coolant?

Yes it needs to be after the stock cooler. But you always flow the fluid up hill so it pushes any air out of the system

Dave at TEP suggests bypassing the stock cooler when adding a cooler, and I agree. We've run ours this way for over 100k miles and we've never seen the temp get much past 170.

Also, I recommend a new gasket with your fluid change. Some of the filter kits actually include them, so it's best to use it.

Sorry, I wasn't aware of the air deal. I was just using thermal logic that since heat rises you would want the cooler fluid from the bottom of the rad. I design large power transformers and all of the rads and pumps on our transformers pull the oil from top to bottom. I just thought the theory would be the same for a car radiator.

Did you notice a difference with the drop in filter? I kinda want to go this route instead of the cold air kit.

I will work on the exhaust video. It sounds really good but it has ALOT of drone. You can also tell when it goes to 4 cyl. I got to get that tuned out.

Another update: got my trans cooler installed. Went well but now my plastic air dam piece won't go back on. Think that will be a problem?
