Default Valve Covers

Okay. I've searched the forum for quite a while and haven't been able to come up with anything.

Recently, I've noticed both of my valve covers are leaking from the bottom of the cover and from the center bolts. I'm in the market to buy new valve covers and don't want to get too fancy. Will valve covers from any 99+ ls engine work? From what I read, the pre 99 year models have the bolts on the outside instead of center. The only thing I'm worried about is finding a cover that will hold the coil packs without having to do modifications.

All you need is new valve cover gaskets. Look on rockauto.

I was told there was a strong potential for the valve covers to have warped. That's the only reason I was looking at replacing the valve covers instead of just the gaskets.

I would doubt that regardless you will need the gaskets remember these aren't small block Chevy style, and rarely if ever will these warp on you. Its easy enough to find out by taking the old cover off and laying it on a flat surface to check if its warped

I'm replacing my valve cover gaskets now (and spark plugs since they will never be more accessible).
There is no way the valve covers could warp under normal driving conditions. They are cast aluminum.

Just get Felpro gaskets and grommets for about $25. They fit perfectly...

I ordered the gaskets and grommets from rockauto for $23 shipped.

Gasket are FEL-PRO Part #VS50504R
Gommets are FEL-PRO Part #ES72233

Sound about right?

sounds right although the gromets come with the kit so no need to order seperate. FWIW autozone has them for about the same price

This particular set has the grommets separate. The part numbers are correct and the total is the same as I spent at Advance Auto...The valve covers are easy to remove. Just unplug the coil harness and individual coils, then remove coils from bracket, then bracket from valve cover, then valve cover from engine...You need 8mm & 10mm sockets, 1/4" drive.

I cleaned mine up with Simple Green and a Scotch Brite pad...

Summit has some ls fabricated taller valve covers. The only reason to switch to them would be clearance issues though.
