Default OBX headers & TruBendz 3" Stainless Catback tubing kit w/Jones Stainless Mufflers

All parts arrived in good shape over the last week.

The OBX header set is of sufficient quality. The included parts are lacking to say the least. purchased felpro gaskets and stage 8 locking bolts.

the Trubendz 3" stainless catback tubing kit appears as if it will fit well. the welding on the Y looks like a drunk 3 year old had 20min of MIG training but is solid with no leaks. included is one 3" 2 bolt flange w/gasket, about 6 pieces or so of universal hanger stock, and several 3" exhaust clamps of the u bolt variety. Also purchased were 3" stainless band clamps from summit racing.

The Jones Exhaust MAX Flow Mufflers are pretty much just a cheap stainless muffler from summit. perforated tube w/packing. 14" case length in Offset/Center configuration to fit the TruBendz kit. There is no resonator present.

an o2 extension harness is also required for your front O2 sensor. This was also ordered from summit.

This space reserved for pictures which are forthcoming. The install is scheduled for 12/22 or 12/23 depending on when the summit order with the emergency parts arrives. a general walkthrough with pictures of fitment will be drafted.

This install wasn't supposed to happen til after the 1st of the year when the TEP parts went in the trans BUT the exhaust decided to fall off last week. so...yeah.

I have 6 lap joint and one butt joint 3" band clamps on the way. I figured I needed 5 total and wanted extra just incase.

I know I don't have the correct size for the crossover but it'll be coming off soon for transmission service so I can just replace it then.

I sincerely apologize for the lack of pictures. Time was of the essence and I was behind as it was. I will get the car on a lift tomorrow and snag some for everyone.

I DID NOT INSTALL MY OBX HEADERS AT THIS TIME. I just looked at how cramped it was and knowing how my luck usually goes (this catback took 8hrs!) I didn't wanna get stranded without the ability to get parts over the holidays. I installed only the trubendz 3" stainless catback and Jones mufflers to my Hogan 3" "catted" DP.

I can say this though...the trubendz kit is legit. By far the easiest way to obtain a 3" dual exit exhaust for a W body car. It is a full 3" the entire way out both tips. The kit specifies and requires a 3" offset/center muffler configuration with a 14" case length. This puts the exit of the muffler within the cutouts in the bumper and about 3" or so from fully exiting the bumper. The case tucks in nice and neat. Almost no room for exhaust tips but you don't really need them. The exit sits in almost a perfect spot.

I used the included 3" flange. It mated perfectly to the DP from hogan. Cut intermediate pieces to length, welded the flange on, and pieced it together.

It went as smooth as it could. I am one guy alone on a garage floor with the car maybe 18" off the ground...I have a 36 waist...yeah...it was fun. Lol.

It fits pretty good in all critical places. I tucked mine up a good bit further than some would've so it's tight to the sway bar and tank strap but I have good clearance at both points.

Overall an excellent purchase. Just make sure to either weld or get some good band clamps. As you see I still tacked the clamps to help keep the pipes from rotating and it gives me a reference if geometry ever changes.

Catback was i believe 350 shipped in 3" stainless. They have it in 2.5" mild, 2.5" stainless and 3" mild as well. add your own mufflers.

This is a shot of how the system looks exiting the car. those outlets are just into the bumper. Could use tips but there's really not much room at all for them...

Thanks for the pictures.

That's unfortunate about the exhaust tips.

I'd personally prefer some exhaust tips. Especially the dual Vibrant (1329) ones I purchased a while back. I'd also like the exhaust tips flush with the bumper like the OEM setup.

Is this system any different (other than price) than the TruBendz one you purchased? http://www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com...ND-PRIX/Detail

That link (the first one) is where I purchased it from. It has been posted on the forums before. The shipping time frames are accurate and service was good.

If you wanted tips flush with the bumper you could do a number of things...the easiest being to go with a shorter muffler. This would pull everything back under the car by 2-4" and leave you plenty of room for tips. Otherwise you're modifying the exhaust by trimming a few inches from the kit. Either way is extremely simple and would accomplish your goal.

I don't so much mind the lack of proper exhaust tips. It still looks good on the GXP in my opinion. If anything I may do one large single tip...but I have other projects first...

Good deal! I am looking at doing something very similar to this with my Impala - OBX heads, ZZP downpipe, since i can't find or get the Hogan one anywhere, and the Mandrel Exhaust system pipe kit. Do keep us posted about them OBX heads, as i am heavily considering them price-wise over the Doug Thorley set. Would like to know how they fit in and everything.

You DO NOT need the zzp downpipe with headers.

The headers themselves come down into a single 3" exit under the car. Not nearly the same length as a downpipe...and without fabricating a midpipe will not bolt directly to any catback.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't either the OBX or DT header set come out to the same place and length as the stock set-up, still requiring a downpipe to connect to the rest of the system??? Or is the outlet on either of the header sets come out a little further than normal, and not requiring a full downpipe, only requiring a mid-way pipe?

Would be good to know, so i know what to get, what i will need and what i don't when i go to get the work done on mine...

EDIT: in further looking at pics of both systems, they are stopping right about where the factory system stops, still needing a downpipe to connect to the rest of the system... first pic is of the DT set, and the second is the OBX. Both outlet pipes look to end in the same spot - same length and all...

Nope. They come down further than the stock manifold and end at the bend. You will need about a foot long piece of straight pipe to connect to the rest of your system.

yes, your right. I had noticed this on someone else's car that had these heads done, and saw where it comes out under the car...

so instead of the foot long piece of pipe, i can actually put the cat right there then. So i found a cat for it - Magnaflow 99209HM, 3" in & out, 13" length - now i just need to find an O2 sensor bung to weld into the outlet pipe of the cat. This isn't as bad as i thought it was going to be, so far...

Well I took my resonator out a few years back and with the car getting up there in age, and probably the mufflers rusting out, I wanted to know if this resonator would fit under the car with the exhaust in question.

Vibrant 1142

Also, I'd like some advice on some mufflers.
