the stage 2 kit from TEP comes with the sonnax billet apply piston... 84965-01K for 3rd gear, and a fully modified valve body ready to install.

So talked to my local trans shop today that is doing my trans, and he basically told me that realistically everything that is in that stage 1 kit is no different then what they get from their local supplier. He said there is nothing really "performance" about it other then the chain drive swap. He wanted to add an extra input clutch and change the clearances but TEP didnt include enough frictions for that to be possible in the stage 1 kit, while he did say that its a good kit well put together, he said I paid alot more then what he could have actually gotten it for (note: i have connections with these people too so my rates are different). As far as its power holding capacity, he said the trans will be rated no better then what its rated from the factory, unless you do more extensive modifications, and he said even then the internal hard parts are the limiting factor as well. As long as im not drag racing it once a week, he said this trans will last 100,000 miles without a problem even with some abuse. So ill be picking it up this week and ill post some pics of the completed product.

So is he going to add an extra input clutch or just leave it as is?

He didn't add it because I didn't provide it, but he said it is unlikely id ever have a problem with it given what I plan on using it for. Was actually kinda surprised that that wasnt in the TEP kit, i know that it had the oversized steel plates for 2nd, but I completely overlooked the fact that it didnt include that extra input clutch. Looking at the TEP website now, it looks like even the stage 2 rebuild kit doesnt include that extra clutch, so I don't know how I would go about getting it without expressly asking for it next time around. Either way i don't think ill have any issues since my goals are between 300-350whp anyway. He just reinforced what I had already known really that i've been posting about, aside from the 300M input shaft, nothing really about these parts in any of the kits, or any of the TEP builds are "performance" orientated, as you can never overcome the limits of the hard parts in the transmission for torque input without going to a physically larger transmission in general. You are merely improving the way the transmission works and fixing the flaws that should have been addressed by the OEM. Line pressure, better clutches, clutch clearances, wider bands, different seals/valving. Etc.

Could you please provide some detail about this extra input clutch? Is it something that I could purchase separately? Do I ask Dave? What does it look like? Is it expensive?

Thank you for this list. It looks like the list from his website which has a lot of generic wording.

I'll quote the ones for some clarification that need part numbers or maybe can only be purchased from TEP:
  • Master Kit with Borg Warner frictions for 2003+ model years
  • 2 Oversized 2nd steel plates for improved clearance and shift feel
  • New Valve Body Spacer plate, modified per application - What does this mean?
  • Bushing kit
  • Thrust Washer kit
  • Stator support bearing
  • Input drum to sun gear bearing
  • Lube dam
  • OE shift solenoids x 2 ACDELCO Part # 24219819 ACDELCO Part # 2141766 - 2 of each part number or one of each?

I don't have specific part numbers for what he uses for those, you MIGHT be able to get some of those off rockauto.

When you get a chance, if you read my post, I'd like some information related to some of those parts. And not part numbers.
