So I should be able to take one of the valve covers off crank it over and see what kinda lift we got going on?

you should have nothing on the DoD cylinders if thats the issue, but its gonna spray oil everywhere lol

Well cranked it over looks like there moving too me. I don't know whats going on here. More thinking I guess.

if it didnt have oil pressure they would be locked and the valves would open normally, you have to check it running unfortunately because its the oil pressure that makes the DoD activate. Only other way to really tell is to start pulling the engine apart, pull the head and see what it has in there.

Thats starting to make sense. So once the engine starts and has Oil PSI those DOD cylinders stop firing. When you first start it almost sounds right then fades away and starts running on 4. Im gonna try and run this thing with the valve cover off might as well make a video of it. No one else in town wants to take the time to figure it out.

you definitely have some hack job **** going on there, if it does have the DoD lifters still in it, best thing to do would be to get an LS4 manifold and a DoD tray (lemme know if you wanna swap parts ) and just convert it back to stock.

Alright guys no valve train movement on #1 when running. Not sure on the back ones yet but that thumping sounds like the lifters going in and out. Dunno but the front #1 made that noise right after it stops. Sorry still forgot to rotate phone. Looking like will need to start taking the heads off and replace some lifters. Everyone running the LS7 lifters I take it? Should the oil pump be replaced too? Thanks again guys for all the quick replies and suggestions. I'm over it for today.

this is going to a dealer, are you sure they want you modifying the engine? you realize that will remove the active fuel management feature permanently right?

ah just got the video to work, so no action on #1 but #7 is moving lol how bout that, gonna have to start tearing that thing down. Wonder if the cam is wiped too.

Its going back to a used car lot. Its already been modified I got this molested GXP because the Chevrolet Dealer wont touch it cause its been modified. I am trying to sort all the bugs out. Now I need to see what they wanna do. I guess takes the heads off in car or is it easier to just drop the whole sub frame... dunno yet. Plus I think it already has an LS3 or non dod valley cover cause it sure dont look like the factory one.

I think so too. He had that CAI as well as that same cover for the MAF. Maybe a message could be sent, its possible he still checks in?

his last logon was forever ago hes got a G35 now and never looked back, if those are stock heads and all that though somebody made off with all those parts he had on it. cause at one point in time this wwas the fastest GXP N/A to date

if it is his it looks like its been butchered lol lemme know what you decide to do with it, i have my DoD valley tray and sensor and opsu just sitting in my garage, it will never be used on my car ever again.

This is DavidGXP, and it does look like my car.
If it was, then somebody swapped the long block. I painted the block Pontiac Blue, and installed Trick Flow 205cc heads with a non DOD cam. The car was tuned by Turbo Technology in Tacoma.
I also had garland sharp Orange aluminum roller rockers on the TFS heads.
Again, it looks like somebody swapped the long block, and reinstalled the valley tray and intake.
If so, then the valley tray is plugging the DOD lifter feed I would image, and it's stuck in 4cyl mode.
In order to get it to run right (assuming a DOD lifter has not collapsed yet) then you'll need to pull the heads and swap the DOD lifters out for standard lifters from an LS2 or such in order to get that valley tray and intake to work right, or swap back over to a LS4 valley tray and intake.

What happened to the car?
I would consider buying it back unless it's mangled. Would love to come out and see it. (DON'T SCRAP IT)

They look like stock heads just found some Junkyard yellow writing on the back of the block and the heat tabs... This thing is clean inside 83k miles.

Update! Just got off the phone with David THIS WAS HIS CAR. He might come up later this week to check it out. Verified two dents on the passenger side. Someone has swapped the engine and has taken all the goodies. Once again if I could buy everyone a round a beers I would. Small world out there. I just knew someone had a lot of time in this thing and wanted to get to the bottom of the history on this thing. Were not sure if the Transmission is still the same but time will tell.
