13 Day LS Fest Build Starts Now
It's coming down to the wire.
I am dead set on making it to LS Fest this year, and I only have 13 more days to tear apart my unmolested 23k mile car to get ready. I am sure I will be looking for some help from the community to make this happen...so please check back often for updates/ questions and requests.
The car I am converting / building / boosting is a 2005 Supercharged Monte Carlo SS.
In addition to completely swapping the LS4, 4T80e and wiring the entire combination up...I also need to find the time to cram this partial pile of goodies under the hood.
It's going to be one hell of a ride, so if your looking for a show stay tuned!

We spent a lot of time today laying things out and planning the end result, but we made some really solid progress as well.
Intercooler is all done. Vibrant 4.5"x12"x22" core with 3" Vanjen clamps in/ out. It fits awesome and looks killer.
Also fabricated a mount for the S475. Mounting it drivers side and the exhaust is going to dump out the front bumper.

Still chipping away. Built a crossmember to support the intercooler, chopped a bunch of tin off the nose, cut the bumper for the intercooler, tacked together one half of the cold side...making progress! Hope to have the motor back from the machine shop tomorrow.

I haven't taken a whole lot of photos the past two days, but I will share what I do have and where we are at...
Complete drive-line and cradle has been dropped out of the car. We completely stripped down the engine bay and shot it flat black.
Going to let the paint dry overnight and assemble the motor/ transaxle tomorrow. Picked up the short block from the machine shop. Just needs a coat of paint then it will be ready for assembly.
I also had these trim rings made up for the bumper exit exhaust. I love the way they came out! I think I will be using the aluminum one since it is a little thicker...
We also redid the rear exhaust manifold (which I need to take some pictures of), and I started putting together the crossover merge as well.
This weekend is going to be a check-list fest. Tons of stuff needs to get knocked out if we plan on making in next weekend! Crunchtime.

The motor is a stock 24x LS4 short-block that has been freshened up. Hot tanked, honed, line bored and decked all courtesy of RAD Auto Machine. New file-fit rings with the gap opened up a little to handle the boost and all new bearings. Pistons/ Rods were checked and are being reused. DOD was deleted and I am running standard LS lifter trays with LS7 lifters. Custom turbo grind on the cam from Geoff at EPS, and dual springs from Brian Tooley to handle the lift & boost. 243 heads were pressure checked, cleaned and resurfaced. Running standard GM 5.3 HO gaskets with ARP bolts. LS2 intake manifold will top off the motor and seal the deal.
Transmission is a stock re-built 4T80e from a 2002 Oldsmobile Aurora with the 4.0L Northstar. We are running the 10.5" Aurora converter for now and drilled the stock LS4 flexplate for the 4-bolt pattern.

As for why we chose the Monte Carlo over the GXP....there are several beneficial reasons!
First and foremost was transmission control. The T42 TCM found with the E40/E38/E67 PCM is still a gray area in terms of controlling the 4T80e and still playing nice with the later model ECU. I believe we can make it work, but there are too many variables at the moment to commit to such a gamble with such a short time frame left. On the other hand....the old standard blue/green truck computers are actually almost the same thing controlling the L67 motor found in my Monte stock. Very similar setup with standard GM Serial Data. Through my research I found that the 4T80e shift logic is actually the same as the 4L80e! That simplified everything. We are running a 24x blue/green PCM from a 2006 GMC Box Truck (which came from the factory with a 6.0/4L80e). This allows us to run a true 3bar enhancement through HP Tuners with an OS upgrade, as well as giving us seemless control over the 4t80e all in once package! The best part is that the data line even runs the stock gauges!
Of course there were other benefits in my opinion...lighter weight, factory return style fuel system, actual cable operated throttle/ cruise....all in all it just made sense.

Great info on the transmission, sounds like a good choice for this project. Be sure to post a pic of that rear manifold, I would think for the turbo guys here that would be of interest. Any suspension mods or a wheel change going to happen for the trip ? Cant wait to see how that exhaust exits , sounds bad ***.

This weekend was crazy, but we accomplished a lot. I only have two more full days to crank on this thing...but I think I am going to make it!
If you have any questions, feel free to ask...I am just going to dump a bunch of photos for now. They pretty much speak for themselves.

i havent seen anyone else use the 4t80e on a ls4 or a l67 before . I think one guy on clubgp.com is trying to use a 4t80e .
It was just converter that had to be changed or drilled for the ls4 to work ?
Lets see more pics . crunch time . You will probably be tuning it on the way to the show .
