Watch your new car after two or three oil changes. You can request the dealer to do an oil monitor or economy test if you think that it is going thru a quart or more oil b4 3k. GM's cop-out is one qt at or around 1200 miles....which is ridiculous IMO for any new engine.
Be cautious about allowing your engine to consume oil because contrary to popular belief, not ALL Lsx engines burn oil. It is common to taste a little oil during the break in period, but the engine should behave itself right after the second change.
Your best recourse is to use what makes sense to you and to stick to the oem and dealer's recommendation as closely as possible.

put a catch can on it. the pcv system is the culprit.
don't believe me? pull the cover off, pull the pcv line off, and see that it is nice and shiney. air isn't shiney, oil is.
do the catch can, clean out the manifold. it will run a lot better!
