Default exhaust

I was wondering if anyone here has put the magnaflow exhuast on their car? does it sound better? Also, anyone change their downpipe to the 3 inch Hogan aftermarket downpipe? I was considering making these changes to my car.

Mike, i installed the MF Catback and so did a couple others. No one has complained yet. A few upgraded to the Hogan (without the catback) and no one has had anything good to say about it...not sure what the deal was there.

Here's a vid of my MF catback:

I run the magnaflow and I like it. .. . stupid rev limiter doesn't let it do justice in park, but you get the idea. The magnaflow website has a good full throttle that it pretty close to what it really sounds like. My favorite part is that it is just on that edge of droaning inside, but it isn't too loud. Best investment you can make for exhaust sound IMHO.

I agree, the exhaust on Buffalo SS sounds awesome. I have a catless down pipe and can barely tell the diff in sound from stock. With a stock ss and my car next to each other there is barely a diff, and for now thats how I like it. Visit hoganperformance and take a look at the restrictions in the stock down pipe, not just the u bend but the section of flex pipe after exiting the manifold, it goes down to about 2 inches. I have a stock down pipe to prove it. In my opinion the down pipe is the biggest restriction in the stock exhaust.

Performance-wise though, did the DP make any difference? I would have to get the hi-flow cat in Virginia unfortunately, but still...

I did order the Magnaflow catback for my GXP (which has not even been sent to the distributors yet, but still it was a really good price).

I don't have any hard facts to prove it, but with out the down pipe all runs (six) were 99.xx passes, and with the down pipe and slower times (diff track) ran all passes (four) at 100.xx mph. The times were a little slower and 60 ft times were alot slower the second time. In my opinion I thinked it helped.

Silver, did you go cat-less or with the high-flow unit? Any codes? IIRC, you have tuning software to correct the codes, right?

I think you are right about the stock cat. I just removed the mufflers and it isn't as loud as I was expecting. It seems as though the cat and res are muffling it down quite a bit.

When you installed the MF catback does that remove the resonator?

I have a catless down pipe. It is not a hogan, but pieced it together myself. Used a piece of flex pipe that the 3 inch pipe will slide through and a long piece of 3 inch pipe with a 45 deg mandrel bend. I did have to get the flange at the manifold from hogan. The first thing I had done to the car was drive it up to vector motorports and had Kurt tune it. I let him know about my plan to change to a catless down pipe. He disabled most of the codes. I didn't want to have to even plug in the 2nd o2 senosr but all the codes were not "fixed", voltage codes and such. No codes but do have the 2nd o2 sensor plugged in the pipe. Nothing against the environment but a high flow cat can be expensive.

Yeah, the cat sure makes a difference (price-wise) through Hogan...another $200 for the cat and rear flange. Seems excessive, but you're paying for bolt-on convenience with that one. Otherwise, you're looking at another $60 for a Carsound (magnaflow) Hi-Flow Cat (ebay) and then the labor to weld it all up, plus the $150 for the DP to begin with. The convenience factor costs you $100 or so when it's all said & done.

If I had to do it all over again I probably would have bought the Hogan catless down pipe. I do like the piece of flex pipe I have though, It is fairly smooth on the inside and does not constrict/get small at any point. I wonder how that magnaflow exhaust would sound with no cat??
