Default Resonator Delete?

hi i bought an 06' MC SS a couple of months ago and recently put on a set of flowmaster 40 series mufflers and 4 inch tips. I have a couple of questions about the exhaust thati hope can be answered here. Do tips make a difference in how exhaust sounds? And i am wanting a stronger louder sound from the exhaust that i am not getting with the 40 series mufflers alone. I here a couple of people have taken out the resonator...where is that in the exhaust and would it really make a difference in how it sounds? Thanks for any help guys.

It's that long glass-pack looking muffler in the center of the car, after the cat.

Can't miss it.

I have this CAI box as well, and I AM very happy with it. mine fits fine, definite difference in performance, and since it has a lid on it (unlike the K&N), it keeps out any unwanted water/slush, debris, etc etc that splashes up under the hood.

i've had a couple instances this past winter where I went to wash the car, opened the hood and saw all kinds of slush splatter marks up under the hood, over/across the top of the air box, etc etc, but like I said, luckily this one has a cover/lid on it so it kept all the crap from getting sucked into the air filter.

Also had it apart the other day to check it out for cleaning (I've had it for almost a year now) and the filter looks like I just put it on... just a little dust (from sanded roads) in the creases between the pleats - just vacuumed it out and it's like brand new again.

Mine was a tight fit, had to wiggle the bottom plate a bit, but took less time then K&N on my truck, works great and less filling, sorry has a little less noise then the K&N setup.

Tony, what fitment issues did you have?

Mine from CAI is great as well. Took me longer to put it on than it should have since I had never done it before and was nervous. Sound is awesome. No dirt or debris, everything still tight.

IIRC, Tony's had a big gap where the top of the lid meets the support brace - like the box isn't forward/close enough to the front of the car.

here is a pic of mine. huge gap. and now the plexi has fallen out of the thing. when i contacted the company they wanted pics, so i sent them pics. then they wanted me to tear it all apart and take pics.. so i did that. "HUGE PAIN" then emailing them and they just blew me off. never got anything back.. i'm pretty unhappy with it. looks cool. and yes a difference in the butt dyno. but for the price i paid the cusomomer service stinks..

yeah, yours definitely doesn't look like it's in there right... somethings up...

the plexi windows fell out of some of them because they had switched brands of double-sided foam tape they were using... i.e. cheaper... it happened to mine too.

I put them back on with my own 3M double-sided foam tape I had, and contacted them about it. They got back to me and told me about them switching brands, but said that they have since switched back to using the same 3M tape that I had already used to fix mine, and said that with using the 3M tape they wouldn't come back off.

And low-n-behold, they haven't loosened up one bit since I put them back on, and that was about 10 months ago...

Some places just don't realize how important service is. No matter if it’s their design or something GM did, word of mouth can really damage their bottom line given enough time. I guess I would have expected them to offer something in the way of a replacement top, sorry and thanks for bringing this to our attention, or anything. Seems like a small outfit trying to make a go of it.

The gap on mine is tighter, maybe due to the differences in the holes GM drilled. I've only had mine about 5 months and am happy overall. My only issue was using Harley torque specs (tight as it will go and add a ¼ turn) on the filter clamp which caused the filter to keep popping off. Eased up on that and all has been fine since. I do like the fact the box is insulated and the sound is less than K&N. My intake noise on my truck is just plain obnoxious when at WOT. The only time that was good is when I was next to a Mustang GT with his window down. Kind of pissed him off when I hit it, but it gave me a good laugh when he punched into it like I was some kind of challange to him.
