Default K&N

Does anybody have a picture of a k&n intake installed on their car. I was curious to see how much the stock intake is replaced (how close to the intake throttle body it starts). ie...does it eliminate the rubber flex tubing.

I haven't checked any junkyards. There aren't many left around here that would have newer car parts. I'm having a friend who runs a body shop check to see if he can find one. Otherwise, I'm still hoping someone on this forum will have one they're willing to sell.

Aside from wanting to put the stocker back on which is never going to happen, is there a risk, perhaps warrenty related, that I should keep my stock one? I've have done this in the past with several cars and end up with a pile of stock stuff (junk) that I do nothing with.

I put my CAI on at about 1K. The stock setup is sitting in a box taking up space.

What's a fair price for this?

I don't think there would be a warr issue, but I am assuming you car is under warranty, so why not keep it to be safe. I have a place in the attic for the stock box, next to the stock down pipe.

FWIW, Mark HAS the same piece he can ship to you in return...just has a broken clip so it doesn't stay on tight...which is why he's looking for this part. Shouldn't matter if you need to reinstall the box for warranty purposes, you can just say the dealer broke it when they took it apart (if they needed to open it up for any reason).

As a matter of fact, there is a clip broken on mine, but stays in place. Why doesn't Mark take his car in and get it replaced under warranty? Is it out of warranty?

Have you tried using any sort of clip to get it to seal better? Maybe even a HD office-type binder clip? That's your major concern, right? Getting the box to seal properly?

If its broke and under warranty, go get it fixed under warranty, it doesn't matter if you bought it used. If you did it, say you were checking to see if your air filter was dirty and it cracked. Be nice about it, and if they question you tell them you know of another person who's cracked doing the same thing.

Perhaps he does not want to lie and steal from GM, however small it may seem to be. Harsh words? Maybe, but that is what it boils down to.

If the clips are that weak, they deserve to be fixed under warrenty.

Even if he was taking the air box off to use as a hat, it broke and shouldn't have. He wasn't taking something apart that shouldn't be coming apart, it was designed to be taken apart, and broke while he was. If the car is under warranty it should be fixed.

The honest truth is that I don't want to take it into the dealer unless absolutely necessary. I'd rather just find the part and install it myself.
