Default A thought.....

I'm going to remove my intake manifold cover later on today. Has anybody done this yet? I'm not looking for approval. Just curious?
My thought's behind this are...
This stupid piece of plastic, acts as a heat insulator to the intake manifold. We don't have any coolant or fuel to help cool our composite manifold down! When the engines idling or shut down where or how is the heat supposed to escape? Heat rises right, and into what? The.... cover!
Look at the the LS1 and 7's they only have a shield over the valve covers! Removing the rear hood cowl weatherstripping would help even more I believe.

And another....
Keep the intake pipe that goes to the air box! Why remove it? I took it out to examine it and came to the conclusion that it helps direct the airflow into the the air box. I believe that it may also have a venturi affect. It may be slightly restrictive but also helpful, I noticed that it's installed at a slight angle so I'm thinking that this is for a reason. So... with all of this said I'm thinking about attaching some kind of a duct or a tube, to the tube, to a cold air source. I might even try to enlarge the hole and install a tin dryer outlet to the box with some dryer tubing. If this won't work then I'll take my trusty rotary tool and cut the front of the box out and just remove the headlight! I did this mod to my Ranger and picked up 1 mpg and it really made my little 4.0 roar!

There are guys on this forum that have CAIs and have noticed no difference with/without the headlight.

I have removed the cover and weatherstripping on mine - others have as well, such as BuffaloSS... it's been several months now for me and no problems...

And as Eddie said... others that have taken out the headlight at the track noticed/experienced no difference... it may make a little difference if you're still using the stock air box and more air is getting forced into that little tube, but there is no difference once you have a CAI installed since you're already getting the performance/air increase from it... there's only so much air you can suck in...

if you can get your head down there close enough there's a gap there that lets air/heat out...

Yeah-I removed mine (intake cover) and I found that the fans run less to cool it off.

I just took it off, with the weatherstripping. It only took about 30 secs.
I was surprised to see foam padding under the cover and at how heavy it was/felt!
I guess the foam acts as an insulator to help protect the plastic from the heat coming off of the manifold.

Plus from the looks department-it looks a bit more business now with the cover off.

The car cools down a bit faster that is all I can see it would do.

Removing the cover and the weatherstripping should allow our cars to be more consistent
when doing back to back runs. When I'm in the stagging lanes with time to spare, I open my hood to allow the heat to escape cause to hood acts as a heat sink just like the cover.
Now if I can just get this thing to stay at 185.
