It says that it will not fit the 06 Impala SS? Will it work on the 07 Monte or nothing in 07?

Is there any benifit to upgrading to this housing? I plan on changing my t-stat anyways but don't know if this housing is better than the stock one or not.

The stock thermo is a 165* right?

And this is a 170* one, I would looking into stepping up into a Ls2 180* thermo if you are going to do this install, which is a lot of tough wrenching. I would want to upgrade higher if I am going to do this.

I thought the stock t-stat was 188 or higher. Also, why would you want to go higher? The point to doing this mod is to get the engine cooler. To do that you would need a lower temp stat.

Yeah the ls2 is a 160. How would this stat work in the winter? My car is a daily driver and we do get snow here in the winter, ie. colder temps. Kinda the reason I was thinking about the 170 stat. Any ill effect to running the 160?

You could have a dyno tuner dyno-cancel the code or disable it through HP tuners.

Pull the negitive battery cable for about 15 minutes to clear the code out. I should stay out. I've been running a 160* for a year now in my GXP with no problems what so ever.

I have heard that only clears the code for a period of time...but once the engine senses the t-stat problem again, it flashes the same code .

Theres a reason the engine has to reach a certain temperature... When the engine heats up the valves and head reach a certain clearance. If you run the engine cooler then you have higher clearances. The LS4 engine has even tighter clearances due to complaints about piston slap and to prevent the pistons from slapping into the cylinder wall they coated the pistons. If you run at a lower temp your just risking exactly what they are trying to prevent.

a 160* t-stat is well within the operating limits you describe of the car. They are stock on a GTO, same LSx engine.....

Ok, a day after I put the stat in the car the light has now gone off on its own. So we will see how it goes.
