Default Need Help A.S.A.P please

I am supposed to travel 3 hours tommorow to get my dyno tune done. Now the guy is all of a sudden saying I might gain 5-7hp if I am lucky. Has anyone had any expierence with getting a tune with HP Tuners. How the hell can you push 17 hp out with a canned tuned from Diablo but get **** all from a custom tune with a 02 wideband setup?

Cheers,

Sounds like he doesn't really want to help you. That, or he has no idea what he's doing. Either way, if I were you, I'd save the gas money.

This is one response he had.

Is that timing stock???? I have never seen that much timing stock on a LSX motor!!! Even a lot of the tunes I do can not run that much timing.

I also see it has a touch of park retard already. What gas are you using? I would be using huskey/Mohawk. I think we will be hard pressed to make

Any gains on the WOT tuning from what I have seen.

And I have no tuning done on my car!

yeah... if that's true, that all he is gonna get you is 5-7hp, I sure as hell wouldn't bother driving 3 hours for that...

So do you think he has no clue on what the hell to tune on the LS4. I am having nothing but trouble finding someone that knows HP Tuners and how to tune my car. I don't understand how I had a 06 Impala SS with CAI and exhaust threw the car on the dyno before and after and gained 17 horse with the Diablo canned tune.

There's a guy on naioa who got a buttload of HP from a shop that used HPtuners. I don't remember how much exactly, but It was considerable. I'll try to find the link.....

I think he just has a K&N.

Buff???? Did he ever post any charts???

Whether he did or didn't, I don't doubt him. Doesn't seem like a very "boastful" guy.

I cant see 25 HP with just a CAI. Being realistic you should gain about 15-20 HP. Here is what RussK a senior tuner on HP board sent me.

I know you will gain at least 15 hp with a tune, this would be in addition to your mods. Plus firm up the trans shifts & reduce/delete the upshift torque reduction. Also I can set up the DoD to stay in V4 mode at highway speeds for a large gain in fuel economy. You car will be totally different after I tune it. I charge $600.00 for a complete tune using a wideband. Were are you located?

25 HP was with the CAI AND the HP tune. Sounds about right to me.

According to K&N, you get 10-13 HP with the CAI, so if the tune gets you another 10-12 HP, you should be right around 25. Right?

For all that money or time your better off just getting an HPTuners yourself and go to town. All you need is a laptop and you can get a new laptop that will run it for $300 then the HPTuners itself for $400 and you are a little over what he quoted you, but you can change your tune every damn day if you would like. Another advantage is you can tune other LS4 cars with it or buy credits for other GM vehicles and tune them. Not a bad little side biz.

I have a laptop and HP Tuners, but have no clue how to change everything. HP Tuners is really only good to tune yourself if you spend the money to buy a 02 Wideband sensor and then connect HP Tuners, When I get one base tune thats all I care about I don't ahve the time to spend countless hours trying to tweak my own tune.

Sorry, I hope I'm not being rude, but why did you bother getting HP Tuners if you're not going to tune yourself and/or use a wideband, as you say?

If you plan on paying someone else to tune your car, you essentially wasted your money, unless I'm missing something.

Well I don't mind tuning on my own but a wideband is like another $500 cdn and just incase I take the car back to the dealership I can switch it back and forth with know headaches. Also I can disable or read the SES codes. But also in the future I do want to learn more to tune it, My 2007 cpu has over 800 tables!

Well I didn't bother going because the guy was obviously making excuses because he doesn't know how to tune the LS4. I am going to wait to tune it now for about a month any ways because Project LS4 headers is in the works! I met the guy last night and he took some pictures and I gave him the manifold gaskets. He thinks 3 weekends in a row with my car and he can have then fabbed up made, coated, wrapped and installed.

Even still, heXX...scarlett's problem is EXACTLY what makes Diablo desireable to the not-so-knowledgeable. Their canned tune definitely finds power hidden in these machines and is extremely easy to work with.

For instance, i was heading up to the mountains for my vacation last month and realized i was getting 12mpg towing my trailer with the 93 octane Diablo tune. I stopped at the first rest stop, plugged in the Diablo, reverted to the stock tune, and gained 4mpg the rest of the way. If i was using HP, i'd be stuck, b/c i wouldn't have thought about bringing my laptop with me...but the trusty Diablo handheld was tucked away nicely under the back seat.

Anyway, scarlett...find someone else, or just play with it yourself. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

EDIT: Took me a while to get this post submitted...stupid WORK...glad you figured it out, though.

Yeah I posted some tips awhile back on finding a good tuner to perform a dynotune. Basically, the guy you described is a loser. Any tuner that is decent would know how to fix those things you mentioned, and not oogle at them on paper...and say, "wow....your LS4 is really confusing blah blah blah..."

Area knows his stuff, but don't you live in Canada?
