Default Exhaust cutouts

Has anyone done or thought about doing exhaust cutouts? The reason I ask is my 06 Imp. was purchased as a future family wagon and there's no way my wife would go for a louder exhaust. So far I have a k&n intake, flipped motor mount, and res delete. My future mods are strut tower braces, eibach springs, hogan down pipe with cat, rockers, springs, possibly headers and either a vector or diablo tune. I figure with the electronic cutouts (3" cutout after the cat) I can keep it quite for the wife and kids and open it up when I'm alone or at the track. Thanks for any input!

I used to have one until I got my 3" system. They are cool because you can have roar when you want to, or quiet for highway driving or something. I think they are a great buy if you don't have a wicked after market system.

Thanks Nacho. A couple ?'s for you, where at on the exhaust did you mount yours, what diameter, and did you lose any bottom end?

Sint3k has a cutout. There's a thread about it, somewhere here in the LS4 forum.

Sorry...I'm doing this from memory because I haven't had a cutout for a while.

http://shop.quicktimeperformance.com...ct_detail&p=24

IIRC, I used that one ^ (fits stock piping), about an inch away from the cat outlet. I tig'ed a flared tip off the open end of the cutout to create some turbulence and flow out of the cutout. As for the bottom end, I really can't put my finger on a performance decrease, i.e. its virtually unnoticeable.

It adds a nice roar to the engine, and you definitely notice more lope....That translates directly into a mental performance aspect--you will like the sound when you mash the skinny pedal .

Thanks for all the help so far, I will being doing this very soon. But one last question before I do, is there any difference between using 1 cutout after the cat or using 2 right before the mufflers like chef did (other than price)? I would use a single 3" behind the hogan setup or 2-2 1/4 before the mufflers. Thanks again for all the info.

As far as performance goes, then putting the cutout as far up to the engine as possible would weld better performance gains by bypassing the cat back system.

I would say > 10 HP, but there is a SOTP feeling as well as a sound increase that may make it feel faster...

Cool, so cutouts are not really a good alternative to a good cat back system then.

Welcome....as you are new, I'll help you out.

1. When you have a new question that does not pertain the main topic of the thread, make a new one.

2. I'm pretty sure there's isn't a Diablo programmer for the 07 models yet.

Yes, you will technically "void" your warranty. Any tampering with the ECM/TCM will "void" your warranty, no matter what product you use. The key is, if you don't admit to it, they'll never know. AFAIK, there is no way for them to tell that ECM/TCM setting have been altered, as long as you return everything to stock before you ever have to take the car in for warranty work.

Nacho is right, there is no Diablo for the 07s yet, but HPTuners supports 07s.

I have heard that these cutouts leak i have never actualy seen one in action what have you guys experianced? Its hard to hear in the video over your normal exhaust. Im toying with the idea of putting a cutout on my stock system and a little tick of an exhaust leak would drive me NUTS!!
